With the push roller 9 rotated in the direction of an arrow A, the paper 4 is moved in the direction of an arrow B. When the trailing end of the paper 4 reaches a tip part of a hopper 6, the leading end of the paper has not yet reached a contact part between a platen 1 and a pressure roller 2. However, a tooth part 11 of the push roller 9 scoops up the trailing end of the paper 4, and is rotated in engagement with the trailing end of the paper 4, so that the paper 4 is moved additionally by an amount equivalent to the rotation of the tooth part 11, whereby the paper 4 is fed into the contact part between the platen 1 and the pressure roller 2.
