Abstract

PURPOSE:To execute the measurement of the entire peripheral surface of a cubic body highly precisely and conveniently, by a method wherein a laser beam of an extremely minute radius is applied onto each side surface of the body to be measured and a reflected light therefrom is detected by a CCD line sensor. CONSTITUTION:A body 1 to be measured is mounted replaceably on a mounting table 2 so that it is invertible and rotatable in relation to a laser beam applying member 3. Beside, a CCD line sensor 4 provided with a camera 4a for adjusting a focal distance is set vertically above the table 2 so that it is parallel to the member 3. When a laser beam is applied from the member 3 to a certain part 1a' of one side surface 1a of the body 1 to be measured while the part 1a' is shifted by a very small distance on the Y axis, the laser beam is reflected in accordance with the shape of the side surface 1a and detected by the sensor 4. The trace of this shifting turns to be a variation in a spot position on the sensor 4, and by finding the shifted spot position by means of the camera 4a, all of the shapes of the certain part 1a' on the Y axis are measured.
