Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a composite material electrode having high sensitivity and nearly independent of the flow rate of a fluid to be measured, by charging a bundle of carbon fibers and an electrically nonconductive resin into a tube and curing the resin.
CONSTITUTION: A bundle of carbon fibers is put in a tube of PE or the like and an electrically nonconductive resin such as epoxy resin is charged into the tube. The pref. thickness of the carbon fibers is ≤10μm and the bundle is composed of about 500W3,000 carbon fibers. The electrically nonconductive resin is then cured by heating the tube. The resulting composite material electrode contg. carbon fibers is useful as an electrode for measuring a dissolved electrochemically reactive substance such as oxygen in a fluid.
