Abstract

PURPOSE:To cause condensation on the surface of a plate and dampen non-image areas of the plate to an appropriate degree, by cooling a liquid filling the interior of a plate cylinder or by humidifying the vicinity of the outer peripheral surface of the plate cylinder by a humidifying means. CONSTITUTION:A coolant pipe 46 is connected to a coiled-form cooling pipe 47 disposed at a substantially central part of the internal space of a plate cylinder 11. A compressor 62 and a cooler 63 are intermediately provided in the line of the coolant pipe 46. The cooler 63, comprising a fan 66, cools a coolant in the coolant pipe 46. A humidifying pipe 71 is disposed in the vicinity of the outer peripheral surface of a plate 14, and is connected to an ultrasonic humidifier 75. At the time of printing, the compressor 62 and the cooler 63 are driven, whereby the coolant cooled by the cooler 63 is fed into the cooling pipe 46, an oil 54 contained in the plate cylinder 11 is cooled, and the peripheral wall of the plate cylinder 11 and also the plate 14 are cooled. Under certain room conditions, condensation occurs on the surface of the plate 14, whereby non-image areas of the plate 14 can be dampened to an appropriate degree. When room humidity is low, the humidifier 75 is driven to increase the humidity on the surface of the plate 14 through the humidifying pipe 71, whereby condensation can be caused on the surface.
