Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a highly bulky mat-like article suitable for bent metal plates or for molded ceiling heat-insulating members for automobiles by heating a blended glass fiber mat comprising glass fibers and specific glass fibers in a pressureless state at the melting point of a hot-melt adhesive or higher. CONSTITUTION: This method for producing a mat-like article comprises heating a blended glass fiber mat in a pressureless state at the melting point of a hot- melt adhesive or higher. The blended glass fiber mat is obtained by blending (A) glass fibers (optimally glass filaments having a thickness of 8-12 μm and a length of 30-150 mm) with (B) glass fibers to whose peripheral surfaces a hot-melt adhesive (for example, polyvinyl acetate) is adhered. The components A and B are most suitably blended in amounts of 45-90 wt.% and 55-10 wt.%, respectively.
