Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the reaction efficiency by increasing the cell density in water-treatment and to simplify the reaction operation, by dehydrating a microorganism at a temperature below a specific level and drying the cell in solid state to a water-content below a specific level.
CONSTITUTION: Microorganisms obtained by cultivation or collected from natural environment or a sludge composed of microorganisms are dehydrated at ≤70°C and dried in solid state to a water-content of ≤85%. The water between the cells can be excluded by this process to effect the adhesion and bonding of the microbial cells with each other. Although the microbial cell may absorb water and swell when the bonded cells are made to contact with a reaction liquid, the bonded state can be kept and the activity of the cell can be maintained.
