Abstract
PURPOSE:To attain high-definition broadcasting without giving effect on existing television broadcast by sending multiplexedly a reference signal used for frequency conversion together with a high-definition luminance signal and chrominance signal in the standard band of the existing television broadcast. CONSTITUTION:After a wide band luminance signal (a) and a modulation color signal (d) are synthesized by a synthesizer 6, the result is separated into a high-frequency component (f) and a low-frequency component by a frequency separator 7. The high frequency component (f) is multiplied with a converted frequency (k) and converted into a low frequency. The said converting frequency (k) is sent multiplexedly for vertical blanking period divided into a fraction of an integral number by a frequency divider 31. Thus, the result is added to the signal subjected to low frequency conversion by an adder 32 and the result is fed to a modulator 3. The modulator 3 and the modulator 4 applying modulation with a conventional NTSC signal are applied as orthogonal modulation by using orthogonal carriers l, m. The output signals of the modulators 3, 4 are synthesized by the synthesizer 2 via an inverse Nyquist filter 11 and a VSB filter 12 and the result is sent to the reception side as a synthesis modulation signal.
