Abstract

PURPOSE:To keep a light coupling efficiency constant independently of the formal change of a Peltier effect device by a method wherein a lens of the lens system nearest a semiconductor laser (LD) chip is provided in the LD chip in one piece, where the lens and the LD chip are fixed to the Peltier effect device. CONSTITUTION:A Peltier effect device 14 which releases or absorbs heat depending on the polarity and the value of the impressed voltage is fixed to the inner end face of a case 12. And, a chip holder 16, which is excellent in thermal conductivity, is fixed to an end face of the Peltier effect device opposite to the end face fixed to the case 12 and a LD chip 18 is provided thereon. A ball lens is fixed to the chip holder 16 through the intermediary of a lens holder 20 and the position alignment is performed so as to position a projecting end face of the LD chip 18 at the focal point of the ball lens 22. In addition, an optical isolator 24 is fixed to the case 12 through the intermediary of a holder 32 and green rod lenses 26 and 28 and an optical fiber 30 are fixed to the case 12 through the intermediary of holders, 34, 36, and 38 respectively.
