Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize a laser device capable of high-efficiency output and of frequent repetition by a method wherein an outer wall type capacitor built between an outer and inner metal bodies serves as a capacitor for charging a capacity transfer type exciting circuit. CONSTITUTION:An end of a peaking capacitor 5 and the cathode of a thyratron 7 are connected to an outer metal body 1 and one of a pair of electrodes 6. In such a design, an outer wall type capacitor sandwiched between the outer metal body 1 and the inner metal body 2 of a laser container 4 serves as a charging capacitor 9 indicated in a circuit equivalent to an exciting circuit. A charging capacitor positioned outside a laser container in a conventional design is dispensed with, and the thyratron 7 may be located nearer to the laser container 4. As the result, wires may be shorter in energy transfer circuits (a), (b), (c), and (d), reducing floating inductance. A voltage may rise more promptly across the two electrodes 6, ensuring a higher breakdown voltage for laser gas. This eventually brings about an increase in laser exciting energy which realizes an higher-efficiency laser output.
