Abstract
PURPOSE:To immediately detect the state where the electrolyte level in any unit cell of a cell stack is lowered from a control level by detecting with a detector the state where the electrolyte level in a tank is lowered from the lower control level. CONSTITUTION:The amount of an electrolyte in an electrolyte storage tank 6 is gradually decreased by evaporation of the electrolyte with the continuation of operation. When the electrolyte level H is lowered to the lower control level Ho, the nozzle tip of a branch pipe 7a is exposed above the electrolyte level. An inert gas sealed in a gas pipeline 7 with pressure applied is released in the tank, then exhausted to the atmosphere from an exhaust hole 61. As a result, the internal pressure in the gas pipeline 7, especially a surge tank 73 is rapidly decreased. The pressure drop detected signal of a pressure sensor 8 is sent to a controller 5 and an electrolyte level lowering alarm is generated.
