Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain polymer-clad optical fiber having high strength and generating low loss by forming a clad part of a resin prepd. by setting an ultraviolet setting resin compsn. with ultraviolet rays. CONSTITUTION:A compd. having an ultraviolet ray functional group and an Si atom. bonded to at least one alkoxy group and halogen in a molecule, as expressed by formula I, is added to a clad-forming resin compsn. as a compd. capable of forming a chemical bond between core glass and a polymer in the stage of setting the compsn. with ultraviolet rays. In formula I, Z is a functional group capable of forming a chemical bond with an ultraviolet ray setting resin by the irradiation with ultraviolet rays; at least one among X1-X3 is an alkoxy group or halogen atom., and others are alkyl group or fluoroalkyl group; R is a single bond or a divalent org. group connecting Z to Si. By this constitution, a degree of increase of loss due to attachment of a caulked connector is reduced remarkably, increasing moreover drawing resistance, providing thus polymer clad optical fiber having high strength and generating low loss.
