Abstract

PURPOSE:To regenerate a filter safely and in a short time by supplying high- temperature gas generated by a caloric power supplying device to the filter at the time of regenerating the filter for scavenging particulates in exhaust gas. CONSTITUTION:A temperature detecting portion 4 and a back pressure detecting portion 5 are disposed on the upstream side of a filter 3 interposed in an exhaust passage for scavenging particulates in exhaust gas discharged from a Diezel engine, and detection signals of the detectors are input with an engine speed signal to a control device 6. When the amount of accumulated particulates in the filter 3 increases and the back pressure becomes higher than a reference value, a valve 8 is switched to the side for opening a by-path 9 to discharge the total quantity of exhaust gas, bypassing the filter 3. A caloric power supply device 7 is driven to supply high-temperature gas to the filter 3, whereby scavenged particulates are removed by combustion to regenerate the filter 3. The regeneration is completed according to output of the temperature detecting portion 4.
