Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve edge coverage and the smoothness of a coated surface and to prevent a defective finish due to the settling of a pigment, etc., cause when coating by electrodeposition is repeated twice, by using specified electrodeposition paint compsns. as electrodeposition paints for first and second layers and simultaneously baking and curing first and second layers formed by coating by electrodeposition. CONSTITUTION:A body to be coated is coated with a cationic electrodeposition paint compsn. (I) by electrodeposition. The compsn. I contains fine gelled polymer particles by 5-50wt.% of the total amt. of all the solid resin components in the compsn. The polymer particles are formed by dispersing an acrylic copolymer having hydrolyzable alkoxysilane groups and cationic groups in water and by internally cross-linking the dispersed particles in the aq. dispersion liq. The resulting uncured paint film is coated with a cationic electrodeposition paint compsn. (II) having >=80wt.% degree of emulsification by electrodeposition to form an uncured double-layered paint film and this paint film is baked and cured. Min. current density required to electrodeposit the compsn. II is <=0.7mA/cm<2>.
