Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the permanent breakdown of a self-arc-extinguishing semiconductor element, by a method wherein circuits, detecting forward voltages, are provided in respective arms of a converter while a turn-off commanding signal from a controller is provided after obtaining the forward voltage signal of the arm and AND. CONSTITUTION:A voltage type converter is constituted of a DC power source circuit 1, a DC capacitor 2, a self-arc-extinguishing semiconductor element (GTO) 3, a reverse parallel diode 4, a gate circuit 5, a transformer 6 for the transducer and the like to supply an electric power to a load. In this case, respective arms of the transducer, consisting of the GTO 3 and the reverse parallel diode 4, are provided with forward voltage detecting circuits, consisting of a resistor 9 and a light emmision diode 10, and an optical forward voltage signal is inputted into an AND circuit 13 through a light guide 11 and a photoelectric transducer 12. The OFF commanding signal from a control circuit 8 is inputted into the GTO through a monostable multivibrator 14, an amplifier 15 and the gate circuit 5 to control the GTO after obtaining the forward voltage signal and AND.
