Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress the generation of ammonia from absorbed urine, by polymerizing at least one kind of a monomer having an addition polymerizable double bond and becoming water-soluble or becoming water-soluble by hydrolysis using a specific hydroxamic acid as an essential component and hydrolyzing the obtained polymer if necessary. CONSTITUTION:Hydroxamic acid repesented by formula (wherein R is an alkyl group, an aryl group or a pyridyl group) or a metal salt thereof is added in an amount of 0.001% (w/v) or more to perform polymerization. For example, 0.1 pts. of capryloxamic acid and a small amount of N,N'- methylenebisacrylamide are added to a solution consisting of 50pts. of sodium acrylate, 20pts. of acrylic acid and 80pts. of water to perform polymerization. The polymerized gel is dried and ground to obtain a white powdery urine absorbent. This urine absorbent has high urine absorbing capacity and has effect suppressing the generation of ammonia itself.
