Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a small sized, light weight, and thin liquid crystal display device and to prevent the device from occurrence of defect such as disconnection of electrode, etc., by embedding a polarizing plate, a reflecting plate or a back light to be arranged to below a liquid crystal cell in a recess. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal cell 2 is mounted on the upper surface of a rigid and flat reinforcing plate 1. A step part 9 having a height corresponding to a dimension of a height of a polarizing plate 7 plus the height of a reflecting plate 8, is formed on the external periphery of the upper surface of the reinforcing plate 1. The polarizing plate 7 and the reflecting plate 8 are embedded in a recess 10 enclosed by the step part 9, and a transparent substrate 5 is bonded to the upper surface of the step part 9 while keeping the transparent substrate 5 at horizontal state. Further, a flexible substrate 13 for a driving circuit (FPC) having an LSI chip 11 as a driving circuit member and other driving circuit members 12 mounted thereon is bonded to the external peripheral surface of the reinforcing plate 1. By this constitution, the whole body of a liquid crystal display device is made thin, small-sized, and light weight, and disconnection of electrode can be prevented.
