Abstract

PURPOSE:To aim at reduction of the damages and the wear and tear of contacts and also the power loss thereof through suppressing the generation of arc at the time of current cutoff by connecting in parallel a series circuit comprising a switch and at least either one of a resistance, a reactor and a capacitor, to a series circuit comprising a switch and a superconductor. CONSTITUTION:Ordinarily, current flows by means of a switch 11 passing through a superconductor 12. In the case where the current is cut off, the electric current is passed through a coil 13 so that the superconductive state of the superconductor 12 is destroyed and current limiting is performed, and then, simultaneously with the current is commutated into a circuit, which includes a switch 21 and at least either one of a resistance 22, a reactor 23 and a capacitor, the switch 11 is opened. Subsequently, the switch 21 is opened so that the current cutoff is performed. Thereby, the generation of arc at the time of opening the switch 11 can be suppressed, and the damages and the wear and tear of contacts and also the power loss can be reduced.
