Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the interference disturbance against the measurement of the density of black smoke mainly composed of a solid carbon component as caused by a liquid particle of an organic component, by providing a heater for heating an exhaust gas up to a specified temperature on the upstream side from a position at which light passes through an exhaust gas smoke density detection passage. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust gas in a dilution tunnel 15 as exhaust gas source is sucked up with a suction pump 10 via an exhaust gas extracting passage 1, a heater 2, an exhaust gas smoke density passage 18 in a detection cell 5, an exhaust gas suction path 13 and a flow control valve 11 and discharged via an exhaust gas discharge path 19 and a flowmeter 12. After the temperature thereof is measured with a temperature sensor 4 provided in the passage 18, an exhaust gas being sucked with the pump 10 is heated with a heater 2 controlled by a temperature controller 3 based on a preset reference value. This enables evaporation and vaporization of organic components with a condensation temperature below a specified value thereby reducing interference disturbance against the measurement operation of the density of black smoke mainly composed of a solid carbon component as caused by liquid particles of organic components.
