Abstract

PURPOSE:To make activation of catalyst feasible and to enhance the activity of catalyst by causing an inorganic oxide carrier to carry the water-soluble compounds consisting of elements selection from among those of the VI and VIII groups of the periodic table and divalent mercaptan. CONSTITUTION:An inorganic oxide carrier is impregnate with an aqueous solution containing at least one of metals belonging to the VI and VIII groups of the periodic table as active components, and the is dried. After this, the dried substance is impregnated with divalent mercaptan to manufacture catalysts for hydrogenation of hydrocarbons. As another process, the inorganic oxide carrier is impregnated with an impregnation liquid containing at least one of the metals belonging to the VI and VIII groups of the periodic table as a active component and also divalent mercaptan. The best suited metals of the VI group of the periodic table are Mo, W, and those of the VIII are Co, Ni. Preferable divalent mercaptans are ethanedithiol, 1,4-butanedithiol.
