Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the moving part and to contrive to attain low power consumption by switching a magnetic pole in response to the location of information recording or erasure of recorded information with respect to magneto- optical recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A bias magnetic field is applied by supplying a current to a coil 4b wound on a magnetic pole 3b placed near a minute spot A being the result of converging a laser beam on a recording medium 6 to form an inverted magnetic domain. In applying the recording or erasure on the recording medium 6 at a position B, a bias magnetic field is applied by a magnetic pole 3c by supplying current to a coil 4c wound on a magnetic pole 3c near the point B while switching the coil to form an inverted magnetic domain similarly. Thus, the magnetic pole, that is, the coil is selected depending on the location of recording of the information or the erasure of the information recorded to/from the recording medium 5 thereby allowing smaller power than that of a method forming a magnetic field over the entire track width.
