Abstract

PURPOSE:To contrive the attainment of high speed access and small size and light weight for an entire device by providing an external resonator type laser oscillated at an optional frequency in a laser gain band, a frequency filter whose transmission frequency is variable and a grating transmitting through an oscillation output light. CONSTITUTION:An optical deflector 13 provided with an optical deflection function in the tracking direction is arranged as a laser beam source radiating a light from a laser to an information recording medium 7 to apply recording or reproduction of the information. The optical deflector 13 utilizes the wavelength dependency of a diffracted angle of the grating (diffraction grating), the semiconductor laser 14 is connected to a power source 15 and arranged between mirrors 17, 18 being components of an external resonator 16 and a frequency filter 19 is provided between the semiconductor laser 14 and the mirror 18. When a tracking deviation takes place, the tracking control is applied so that the track is traced by the correction by the electrooptic deflection scanning so that the transmission frequency of the frequency filter 19 is subjected to variable control, thereby deflecting the transmitted light of the grating 20.
