A multi-core optical fiber has a plurality of cores formed in a single glass fiber, and has a greater economical effect than a single-core fiber.
In particular, in the case of a multi-core optical fiber 1 having grooves 1c and convex portions 1d on the outer periphery, such as the multi-core optical fiber 1 consisting of a plurality of cores 1a and claddings 1b as shown in FIG. It has the advantage of being easy. However, in such a multi-core optical fiber, it is difficult to individually identify each core 1a only from its outer shape, and the outer diameter is also small.
Since it is about 0.1 or 0.2 mm, it is difficult to mark it.

This idea was made in view of the above circumstances.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a multi-core optical fiber tape unit in which each core can be clearly identified. In order to achieve this purpose, this invention focuses a large number of multi-core optical fibers into a tape by applying a coating, and the arrangement of each multi-core optical fiber is
By uniquely defining it with respect to the plane of the coating, each core of each compound fiber can be clearly identified. The drawings will be explained in detail below.

FIG. 2 shows an embodiment of the present invention, in which 1 is a multi-core optical fiber and 2 is a coating. Figure 3 is a diagram showing the connection state of the tape unit of the present invention, where 3 and 3' are V
It is a groove connector. It is assumed that the compound optical fiber 1 has an axially symmetrical shape having a groove 1c and a convex portion 1d that are uniform in the axial direction on the outer circumference. A large number of such multi-core optical fibers 1 are arranged on one plane as shown in FIG. 2, and are collectively formed into a tape shape with a coating 2. The coating 2 is formed by extrusion molding of thermoplastic resin, thermosetting resin, ultraviolet curing resin, or the like.

In the present invention, the arrangement of each compound fiber is defined so that the groove 1c and the convex portion 1d on the outer circumference maintain the same relative relationship with the plane of the tape, that is, the plane 4 formed on the outer circumferential surface of the coating 2. That's what I do.
As a manufacturing method for defining such a positional relationship, the following method is effective. That is, when drawing and manufacturing each compound-core optical fiber 1, a reference plane corresponding to the shape of the compound-core optical fiber is drawn in the length direction on the outer surface shape of the primary coating (not shown) applied to the compound-core optical fiber. A large number of multi-core optical fibers with primary coatings are formed uniformly, and when the tape coating 2 is applied, the reference planes of the primary coatings are aligned. In the example of Fig. 2, the compound fiber 1
The straight line connecting the two most outwardly protruding convex portions is arranged perpendicularly to the upper and lower planes of the tape. At this time, in order to connect the tape units to each other, even if the coating 2 is removed, the arrangement of the multi-core fibers is not easily disturbed, as shown in Fig. 3.
By means of the V-groove connectors 3, 3', it is possible to easily establish a defined connection between the cores.

The thickness of the tape unit is less than 0.5 mm, and the width is about several millimeters. The tape unit of the present invention has several times the power (4 times in the example shown in Figure 2) compared to the conventional tape made by focusing single fibers.
It has a number of cores, making it an extremely dense unit.

As described above, according to the present invention, since the core arrangement of each compound fiber is uniquely defined by the tape shape, each core can be clearly identified, there is no error in connection, etc., and efficiency is improved. While it is easy to operate, it also has the effect of realizing a high-density tape unit. Therefore, the present invention is highly effective in making optical fiber cables more economical.
