In a recording device that records using cut recording paper,
When performing continuous recording, a necessary condition for efficient recording is to set the interval between recording sheets as short as possible before feeding them to the recording section.

Incidentally, in recent years, there have been an increasing number of recording apparatuses that use band compression techniques and the like to vary the recording speed of recording paper according to image information. Suppose that such a recording apparatus feeds a recording paper to be printed next with its leading edge approaching the trailing edge of the recording paper to be printed first. In this case, when the recording speed of the previous recording decreases in the recording section, the subsequent recording paper that is fed at a constant speed despite this decreases, overlapping the previous recording paper.
This results in the inconvenience that the trailing edge of the previous recording paper is not recorded. Of course, normal recording on the next recording paper is also impossible in this case.

For these reasons, in this type of recording apparatus that uses cut recording paper, when performing continuous recording, feeding of the next recording paper is started after the recording of the previous recording paper is completed. However, when such a paper feeding method is adopted, even if the printing speed of the printing apparatus is improved, wasted time is generated for paper feeding, and there is a drawback that sufficiently efficient printing cannot be performed.
In order to solve this problem, it has been proposed to feed the next recording sheet at the lowest recording speed immediately after the previous recording sheet is fed out from the paper feed tray.
This method solves the problem that the recording paper sent out later overlaps the recording paper sent out earlier. However, with this method, if the previous recording paper is scanned at high speed due to white block skipping coding (WBS), for example, the gap between the following recording paper increases and the wasted time described above also occurs. Put it away.

In the present invention, the above-mentioned object is achieved by feeding the next recording paper to the recording section at substantially the same speed as the sub-scanning speed of the recording paper in the recording section.

FIG. 1 shows a thermal recording apparatus employing a variable speed scanning method. In this apparatus, an ink donor sheet 1 coated with heat-fusible or heat-sublimable solid ink is selectively heated by a thermal head 2, and the melted or sublimated ink is transferred onto recording paper 3 to record image information. Next, a method of feeding recording paper when continuous recording is performed with this thermal recording apparatus will be explained.

When the operator presses a recording start button (not shown), the feed roller 4 starts to be driven at time t1 as shown in FIG. 2 (FIG. 2c).
When the feed roller 4 is driven, the uppermost stacked recording paper 3 that is in contact with the feed roller 4 in the paper feed tray 5 is sent out in the direction of an arrow 6.

A paper sensor 7 is arranged in front of the paper feed tray 5 at a short distance from the paper feed tray 5, and the feeding of the recording paper 5 by the feed roller 4 is detected by the paper sensor 7. When the paper sensor 7 detects the leading edge of the recording paper 5 at time t2 (FIG. 2a), a pair of register rollers 8 are driven from time t3 slightly later (FIG. 2d), and the recording paper 3 is captured by this register roller 8. When the recording paper 3 is captured by the register roller 8, the leading edge of the recording paper 3 is detected by the registration sensor 9 located adjacent to the front of the register roller 8 at time t4 , which is a little later (see FIG. 2). b).
At this time t4 , the drive of the feed roller 4 is stopped (FIG. 2c), and the recording paper 3 is thereafter fed forward at a speed that matches the circumferential speed of the register roller 8.

By the way, the register roller 8 is driven by a pulse motor (not shown), and a control circuit (also not shown) counts the number of pulses supplied to the pulse motor, and at time t 5 when the leading edge of the recording paper 3 reaches the vicinity of the back roller 11, the back roller 11 is driven. 11 (Fig. 2e). The back roller 11 is pressed against the thermal head 2 via the ink donor sheet 1. Accordingly, when the back roller 11 is energized, the ink donor sheet 1 is fed out from the supply roller 12, passed through the recording section 13 that comes into contact with the thermal head 2, and then wound onto the take-up roller 14.

In this state, the recording paper 3 is held between the ink donor sheet 1 and the circumferential surface of the back roller 11 by a pair of register rollers 8 that have approached the back roller 11.
It is sent to the recording section 13. any time t 6 after this
At this point, the drive of the register roller 8 is stopped (FIG. 2d). On the other hand, the back crawler 11 performs so-called white line skipping, in which the circumferential speed is increased when there is no image information to be recorded. When the recorded recording paper passes between the back roller 11 and the peeling roller 12, it is peeled off from the ink donor sheet 1 and discharged in the direction of arrow 15.

Now, feeding and recording of the first recording paper are performed in this way, but when the trailing edge of the first recording paper is detected by the paper sensor 7 at time t7 , at the same time or slightly At time t8 , the feed roller 4 is driven (FIG. 2c). The circumferential speed of the back roller 11 is maintained at the same speed as the back roller 11 by control of a control circuit (not shown) that controls the circumferential speed of the back roller 11 . Furthermore, the circumferential speed of the register roller 8, which is energized at time t9 after time t8 , is maintained at the same speed as that of the back roller 11 under the control of the control circuit described above (FIG. 2d).

Such control to match the circumferential speed of the back roller 11 is carried out until time t10 when the recording of the first sheet of recording paper is completed and the drive of the back roller 11 is stopped, as indicated by diagonal lines in FIG. The register roller 8 feeds the second sheet of recording paper at a prescribed constant speed after time t10 , and causes the recording section 13 to start recording. The feeding method for the third and subsequent sheets of recording paper is also similar.
