Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate a wasteful electrostatic charging adjusting agent and to perform uniform electrostatic charging by dispersing the electrostatic charge control agent only at the surface part of toner. CONSTITUTION:A resin coating layer 3 which contains electrostatic charge control agent particles 2 or the electrostatic charging adjusting agent is formed on the external surface of a toner base body 1 which contains no electrostatic charge control agent. The electrostatic charge control particles 2 is dispersed or the electrostatic charge control agent is formed on the external surface of the toner base body 1, so the toner is charged electrostatically and uniformly when charged by friction with iron powder, etc. Further, no electrostatic charging adjusting agent which is not necessary is used in the toner, so the manufacture cost is reduced.

(bl) Conventional Technology The toner used in copying machines, etc. is usually a mixture of a resin 1 colorant and a charge control agent. The method for producing this toner is as shown in Figure 4. resin 1
The coloring agent and charge control agent are measured and mixed in a predetermined ratio. Next, (1) the resin is heated at a low temperature to soften it, and the coloring agent and charge control agent are uniformly dispersed in the resin, followed by kneading. After cooling this by natural cooling etc., it is pulverized to a diameter of about IQ11m using a force 7 mill, jet mill, etc. Furthermore, (2) coarse particles and fine particles are removed to produce a product (toner) with an average particle size of about 10 μm.

(C) Problems to be Solved by the Invention As mentioned above, in the past, a product (toner) was made by uniformly dispersing a charge control agent in a resin, so the charge control agent was applied both inside and on the surface of the toner. It was dispersed. However, when toner is charged by friction with iron powder, etc., most of what is involved in this charging phenomenon is the charge control agent dispersed on the toner surface, and the charge control agent inside the toner mostly plays that role. It is meaningless and meaningless. Also,
■ Mixing and mixing of resin and charge control agent in the mixing process and ■ kneading process.
Even when kneading is performed, the charge control agent may not be uniformly dispersed on the toner surface, and the toner may not be uniformly charged.

In view of the above problems, it is an object of the present invention to provide an electrophotographic toner that does not waste the charge control agent (and is charged uniformly) by dispersing the charge control agent only on the surface portion of the toner. do.

First, a chip-shaped resin and a powdered colorant are sufficiently mixed using a mixer or the like (first step). This is kneaded in a melted or softened state using a heating roll or the like to uniformly disperse the colorant in the resin (second step). The thus kneaded resin and colorant are cooled by natural cooling or the like, and then coarsely pulverized using a hammer mill or the like or finely pulverized using a jet mill or the like to obtain particles of approximately 10 μm (third step).

Coarse particles and fine particles are removed from the pulverized particles, and the particles are classified so that the average particle size is about 10 μm (fourth step). The particles thus formed are a toner matrix, and a charge control agent powder is added to the toner matrix and mixed (fifth step), followed by low-temperature heating (sixth step). This heating causes the charge control agent to be fused to the surface of the toner base. By cooling this to room temperature, a product (toner) is completed.

After uniformly mixing the toner base and the charge control agent in the first to fifth steps in the same manner as in Example 1, a pulverizer or the like applies a weak impact (pressure) to the extent that the toner base is not crushed. A charge control agent is pressed onto the surface of the toner base.

In addition, FIG. 3 (Bl is a toner base body 1 with a coating layer 3 made of a resin and a charge control agent provided on the surface of the toner base 1, and the manufacturing method of this toner is the same as in the above-mentioned embodiment.
A toner matrix is formed in steps 1 to 4. Thereafter, the toner base is coated with a coating agent in which a charge control agent is dispersed in a resin.

The above-mentioned toner does not contain a charge adjusting agent inside the toner that does not take part in charging, that is, the toner matrix l, so that unnecessary charge adjusting agent is not used and the cost is low. In addition, since the charge control agent 2 or the coating agent 3 containing the charge control agent is attached to the surface of the toner base 1 after the toner base 1 is formed, the charge control agent is uniformly dispersed on the surface of the toner body 1 and the chargeability is improved. It is possible to “prevent” from becoming unstable.

(g1 Effects of the Invention According to this invention, since the charge control agent is dispersed on the surface of the toner matrix, the chargeability of the toner can be stabilized. Also, an unnecessary charge control agent is not used inside the toner. Since this process does not occur, manufacturing costs can be reduced.
