Abstract

PURPOSE:To inform the life of a head and to prevent a printing quality from being deteriorated by detecting the resistance value of the dot of the head at an upper limit thereof. CONSTITUTION:A com5 and a point A always communicate on a head terminal T, dot1 to dotn on the terminal T generate dot selection signal from a dot selector 10 by a dot selection command from a CPU 11, and select an AND circuit 8 from N1 to Nn. Thus, it communicates with B through an OR circuit 9. The points A, B are connected to points C12, D13. Here, when the initial resistance value of the head dot is Rh, this bridge is balanced under the condition of RhR2=R1R3, and a potential difference VEF between points E17 and F18 becomes zero. Since the VEF is the difference of the points E and F, it is represented by VEF=VE-VF. Then. an operational amplifier Op1(19) calculates VE-VF to obtain the VEF. Then, an operational amplifier Op2(20) compares the VEF with a reference voltage E2, and outputs a signal to G21 when the condition EEF>E2 is satisfied.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] Conventionally, thermal printers have not used a circuit for detecting an abnormality in the resistance of the head, so an increase in the resistance value of a dot in the thermal head causes print defects. Furthermore, if the printing operation is performed without replacing the head, the resistance value of the surrounding dots of the abnormal resistance dot may increase, which may cause further deterioration of printing.

[Means for Solving the Problems] In order to solve the above problems, in the present invention, an abnormality in the resistance value of each dot is detected through an operational amplifier from a change in the potential difference of a Wheatstone bridge, and this is detected. We adopted a configuration in which the user is notified by transmitting the information to the CPU.

FIG. 2 is a logic diagram of the helad dot selection circuit. As shown in the figure, there are contacts 6 for comm, (common) 5, and dotl to dotn on the end terminal T. 1) com5 and point A on head terminal T are always connected. 2) Dotl to dotn on head terminal T generates a dot selection signal from dat selection circuit IO in response to a dat selection command from CPU 1, and N1 to Nn
AND circuit 8 is selected up to. This indicates that it is connected to B through the OR circuit 9 of 0. 1) and 2) show that com5 on the head terminal T and the selected dat from dotl to dotn are equivalent between A-8.
