The polymer electrodeposition method used here utilizes the phenomenon in which a water-soluble polymer in which a dye is dispersed is electrochemically insolubilized and deposited on an electrode, and the anionic form of the water-soluble polymer is Mainly used. In the conventional manufacturing method using the polymer electrodeposition method, first, for example, ITO (■n2030) is processed by photo etching on a glass substrate to form a large number of pixel unit electrodes (pixel electrodes) that will serve as the base of the color filter. A pattern is formed that includes power supply terminals corresponding to pixel electrodes to be colored in the same color and power supply lines that connect the pixel electrodes to be colored in the same color and the corresponding power supply terminals to each other.

Polymer electrodeposition for coloring each color is performed by connecting the corresponding power supply terminals to a power source, which connects the pixel electrodes to be colored in each color and the transparent electrodes arranged to face them. A voltage is applied to deposit a colored film of the relevant color on the pixel electrode by polymer electrodeposition. Finally, the colored film is cured by heat treatment (e.g. about 100℃,
10 minutes).

However, when a power supply line is arranged and electrodeposited, the upper limit of the allowable resistance value of the power supply line is at most several ohms, and if the resistance value exceeds this value, the thickness of the colored film of the electrode becomes thin. Therefore, when manufacturing a large-area color filter, the colored film on the periphery of the substrate, where the resistance of the feeder line is low, becomes thicker, and the colored film on the center of the substrate, where the resistance of the feeder line is high, becomes thinner. There is a risk that the color filter will be uneven. Furthermore, the feed line pattern occupies a certain area, which hinders the design of higher density color filters.

The exposed surface of the cage acts as an electrode in the electrodeposition method. On the other hand, the transparent conductive film that spreads over the entire surface acts as a power supply line for the electrodes. Therefore, the electrodeposition conditions for the central part of the substrate and the peripheral part thereof are the same. As a result, color unevenness in the resulting color filter is eliminated.

The pixel filter layer is a mixture of pixel filter layers of three colors, G) and blue (B), and has the same regular arrangement. According to this embodiment, first, a transparent conductive film 1 is formed on the entire or partial surface of a transparent substrate 5 such as a glass substrate or a flexible plastic substrate (FIG. 1(A)). The transparent conductive film 1 is formed of a metal oxide film generally called a NESA film (tin oxide film) or an ITO film (indium oxide film containing tin oxide). Next, a photoresist 2 is applied on the transparent conductive film 1 (FIG. 1(A)). This resist 2 is then photo-etched using a predetermined photomask 3 to form a resist pattern 4 having windows or openings in pixel areas to which a first color (for example, red) is to be applied.
