Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase productivity by inserting the lugs of a plate group and a partition for forming slits in a mold for uniting straps which connect lugs of anodes and cathodes and a connector which connects the straps, and uniting the connector. CONSTITUTION:Lugs 2 and 4 of cathode plates 1 and anode plates 3 are connected with straps 5, then the straps 5 are connected with a connector 6 to form a storage battery. A mold having a cathode side recess 9, an anode side recess 10, and a connector recess 11 is produced, and molten lead 8 is filled in the mold, then the lugs 2, 4 and a partition 13 are immersed in the molten lead 8. After solidifying the molten lead, the mold and the partition 13 are removed. Thereby, the strap 5 and the connector 6 are bonded with no casting fins formed. Therefore, productivity and reliability are increased.

Conventional technology and its problems Conventionally, in monoblock lead-acid batteries, the straps and poles are simultaneously formed by welding the ears of the pole group with molten lead in a mold, and then chamber holes are formed in the cell partition wall in advance. However, a manufacturing method was adopted in which the cathode and anode columns placed through the partition wall were resistance welded at the positions of the holes. Also, a manufacturing method was used in which the poles were welded at the top of the bulkhead. Both manufacturing methods required a post-step process after strap formation to weld the poles together and an inspection process to confirm the reliability of the welded parts. This has the problem of complicating the process, requiring more man-hours, poor productivity and increasing battery production costs.

The recess is filled with molten lead. Immediately after that, the negative and anode plates of each of the adjacent cells are connected to each other through a dividing plate forming a slit for forming a connecting body with a connecting part at the upper part of the partition wall in the upper direction of the recess. Place the ears. These supporting plates and the ears of the negative and anode plate groups are moved downward and immersed in the molten lead. In this case, the supporting plate has the same cross-sectional shape as the recessed portion serving as the connecting body, and is brought into close contact with the recessed portion to push the molten lead apart. Further, the ear portion of the mold concave portion which becomes the strap is immersed in the molten lead and is bonded to the molten lead and welded. After the molten lead has solidified, it is separated from the mold and the support plate is removed. This results in
A connection body with a strap and a slit without flash could be formed.

In this way, the molten lead filled in the recess that will become the connection body is pushed apart by the dividing plate that is in close contact with both inner walls of the recess that will become the connection body, and the molten lead that is in close contact with both walls of the recess and both sides of the division plate is separated. Some molten lead is pulled back to the molten lead side by surface tension, and the slit portion of the connection body can be formed without any residual lead.

The integrated strap and connection body according to the present invention can form a connection body with flash-free slits, so there is no need to remove flash and the process of welding the poles between cells is simple. This is unnecessary, and furthermore, an inspection process for confirming the reliability of the welded part is unnecessary.
