Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the serviceability of a composite collection material by allowing the ignitability of activated carbon to disappear and making the same fire-retardant, by forming the composite collection material for collecting a semi-volatile or volatile radioactive substance from a carbonaceous substance and the composition thereof. CONSTITUTION:A composite collection material is formed by granulating a carbonaceous substance being a mixture of powdery activated carbon and a fire-retardant contg. substance such as colloform clay or a composition thereof. For example, the composite collection material consisting of 20% of powdery activated carbon and colloform clay is crushed into a size of 9-12 mesh and subsequently allowed to fill a pipe having an inner diameter of 8mm having an air permeable plug allowed to film one end thereof up to a height of 200mm to form a collection pipe. By this method, the ignitability of activated carbon is allowed to disappear and the composite collection material made fire-retardant and having high practicality can be also used as a collection material of dangerous semi-volatile and volatile substances.
