The thermo-actuator is shortened to provide excellent impact resistance, and the tight sealing mechanism formed on the guide member that engages the push rod prevents moisture and foreign matter from entering the resilient seal spool. This is a long-life wax-type thermostat that prevents heat loss and maintains a lubricating film formed between the push rod and the elastic seal spool for a long period of time by the lateral pressure exerted by the molten wax due to the rise in engine coolant temperature.

The length of the spool is generally close to about twice the full open lift of the thermostatic main valve. Engine coolant temperature is 100
Due to the negative pressure generated within the elastic seal spool under the conditions of rapid cooling from a high temperature exceeding 30 degrees Celsius to a low temperature below 30 degrees Celsius, moisture may intrude into the elastic seal spool.

As will be explained later, this moisture lowers the valve opening temperature of the thermostat, causing the main valve to open early, causing the engine to overcool, resulting in insufficient vaporization and atomization of the fuel in the cylinder, reducing the thermal efficiency of the engine, and causing harmful gas emissions. More things will be generated.

The depth of the center hole of the elastic seal spool has been shortened to the fully open lift of the thermostat's main valve + α, making the thermoactuator more compact and providing excellent impact resistance. In addition, the lateral pressure exerted by the molten wax due to the rise in engine coolant temperature has been reduced. Embodiments of the wax-type thermostat of the present invention will be described below in order to obtain a wax-type thermostat with a long life and low cost that maintains a lubricating film formed between a push rod and an elastic seal spool for a long period of time. Figures 1 and 2 are cross-sectional views of the wax type thermostat of the present invention, the former showing the main valve when it is fully open and the latter showing when the valve is closed.
Generally, a wax type thermostat has a frame 3 fixed to a housing 2 forming a valve seat 1, a main valve 4 engaged with a valve seat J, and a thermostat to which this is press-fitted and fixed, as shown in Fig. 1.
It consists of a guide member 11 of the actuator 5 and a compression spring 6 that engages between the main valve 4 and the frame 3.

Moisture has already entered the elastic seal spool 8 from the closed valve R (Figure 3), and the lateral pressure exerted by the molten wax causes the elastic seal spool to spool. Pressures the push rod, so the moisture is trapped at the tip of the push rod and reaches a fully open lift (Figure 4). An example of the water temperature of the thermostat versus the diadarum of the valve lift in this case is shown in Figure 5. 0 curve 1iA is the measured value when there is no moisture in the gap 12 1 curve B is the measurement when the gap 12 is filled with moisture The values are shown, and both were conducted using the same thermostat. The valve opening temperature of B is 4°C lower than that of A, and the temperature is 1.6+*■ higher at full open lift. At this time, B is the valve 4 when the valve is closed.
Since it opens 0.5 dragons, it becomes overcooled.

The wax starts out as a solid substance, and as the water temperature rises, it gradually melts and increases in volume, and the main valve opens at 80°C. After the beginning, the lift suddenly increases and reaches a full-open lift of 8.5111 at 90°C (D). At this time, all the wax has melted, and all that remains is the expansion of the body, and from 90 degrees Celsius to 130 degrees Celsius, the lift will be about 2 degrees long. The lift up is only 0.05-1 per degree Celsius. Therefore, it is advisable to set the initial setting point for the full open lift of the main valve to be around point E in a stable region with little lift change on the high temperature side of the wax transformation point of 90°C. Once the initial setting point for the full open lift is determined, the initial valve opening temperature will be automatically determined based on the characteristics of the wax, making initial setting of the thermostat easier.

The depth H of the center hole of the elastic seal spool 8 is assumed to be the full open lift L+α of the thermostat. Here, the value of α is approximately 1.8 times the radius of the push rod 9 as a reference, but of course it is not limited to this. Further, although the shape of the tip of the push rod is shown as a semicircle, the shape of the cone may be similar to this. The right side of the center liner of the push rod 9 shows the state when the engine cooling water reaches the main valve's fully open temperature, and the left side shows the state when the valve is closed.
