Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a remedy for trichophytosis, by using a liquid extract of horsetail as an active component. CONSTITUTION:Collected horsetail (a perennial pteridophytous plant belonging to Equisetum genus) is boiled down in water to obtain liquid extract, which is used as an active component of the objective remedy for trichophytosis. The extract may be concentrated and applied by diluting with a solvent such as water in use or dried by spray-drying, vacuum drum-drying, etc., optionally after vacuum concentration, crushed to obtain a solid or powdery product and applied as a remedy after dissolving in water, etc. Horsetail contains 5-16wt% silicic acid, which is supposed to be effective in the remedy of diseased part. The diseased part can be regenerated nearly to a naturally cured state without causing excessive stimulation, etc. The raw material is easily available and trichophytosis such as athlete's foot can be eradicated safely at a low cost without danger of side effects, etc.

White layer, a skin disease caused by athlete's foot and fieldworm, is said to be caused by infection with a type of filamentous fungus, the fungus Shirofu. The symptoms vary, starting between the toes, causing small blisters and itching. If the condition worsens, a ringworm rash may develop, and the skin between the toes turns white, peeling and becoming red and sore.

In rare cases, the lesions may also extend to the soles of the feet, fingers, and palms, and when the nails are affected, they may become grayish-white and cloudy, and the surface may become uneven and thick.

Various therapeutic agents have been provided to treat such self-dissolving lesions, but although these conventional therapeutic agents can temporarily suppress the lesions, they do not permanently cure them. It is extremely difficult to do so, and the current situation is that recurrences occur repeatedly over a considerable period of time.

As a result of repeated experiments and research in order to obtain a therapeutic agent that is effective against ringworm, which is difficult to completely cure, the present inventor discovered a perennial of the horsetail family, which has been known to have diuretic properties. It was discovered that the extract of the fern plant Sugina is extremely effective in the fundamental treatment of the white layer, and was unsuccessful in completing the present invention.

More specifically, the present invention is a white layer treatment agent characterized by using an extract of Cedar mustard as an active ingredient. The white layer is treated by immersing the affected area directly in the cedar mustard extract dissolved in water, but the extract is concentrated and diluted with a solvent such as water during treatment. Alternatively, if necessary, this extract may be concentrated in vacuum, dried by a known method such as spray drying or vacuum drum drying, pulverized into a solid or powdered form, and mixed with water. It can also be used as a therapeutic agent by dissolving it.
