Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable only the face part of a talker to be transmitted on a screen and to improve inconvenience on using a television telephone set such as giving incongruity on a talking opponent or worrying about appearance, by providing a picture information limiting part which receives instruction from a limiting coordinate and shields the periphery of picture information from a television camera leaving a part of the screen, between a picture information limiting part. CONSTITUTION:A picture information storage part 20 receives the picture information from the television camera 10 obtained by scan, and stores the picture information of two continuous screens. A change detecting means 51 takes out those picture information of two screens, and detects the change point of the image, then, outputs it as coordinate information. A change coordinate storage means 52 stores the coordinate information of an image change point inputted from the change point detecting means 51 for a prescribed time. A most frequent change coordinate detecting means 53 detects a coordinate on which the coordinate information stored in the change coordinate storage means 52 are concentrated and outputs it as the coordinate information. The picture information limiting part 30 substitutes prescribed shield information for other peripheral parts leaving, for example, the face part of the picture information taken out from the image information storage part 20 according to the above stated coordinate information.

When a conventional video telephone takes a picture of the face of a caller as a subject from a fixed TV camera, not only the face of the caller but also his/her clothes and back are transmitted and displayed as a screen to the other party. Furthermore, if the television camera is an autofocus type, it is possible to bring one's face close to the television camera and make the screen cover only one face.

As mentioned above, conventional videophones are configured so that the TV camera also photographs the clothes and background of the caller, so if, for example, the caller is absent due to illness, the caller's unsightly clothes or background may be shown to the other party, causing discomfort. On the other hand, there were problems in use, such as the need to be careful to prevent this from happening.

FIG. 1 is a functional block diagram showing one embodiment of the present invention. In the figure, the TV screen transmitter of the video phone is
It has a television camera 10, an image information storage section 20, an image information restriction section 30, a transmission section 4o, and a restricted coordinate instruction section 50. The restricted coordinate designating section 50 has a changing point detecting means 51, a changing coordinate storing means 52, and a most frequently changing coordinate detecting means 53. In addition, this video telephone is equipped with an audio signal transmitting/receiving section that transmits and receives audio signals, and a television screen receiving section that receives the video signal of the other party and displays it on the receiver, but these are directly related to the gist of the present invention. Since it is not related and can be constructed using known techniques, it will not be described in detail.

The television camera 10 is substantially fixed, and mainly photographs the face of the person facing the caller. The image information storage unit 20 receives image information from the television camera 10 obtained by scanning,
Image information for two consecutive surfaces is stored. The changing point detecting means 51 extracts the image information for these two surfaces, detects the changing point of the image, and outputs it as coordinate information. The change coordinate storage means 52 stores the coordinate information of the image change point inputted from the change point detection means 51 for a predetermined period of time. Most frequently changing coordinate detection means 53
detects the coordinate where the coordinate information stored in the changing coordinate storage means 52 is concentrated as the most frequently changing coordinate and outputs it as coordinate information.

The image information restriction unit 30 extracts the screen information from the image information storage unit 20 according to the coordinate information output by the most frequently changing coordinate detecting means 53, leaving only the most frequently changing range (for example, the facial area), and converting the other surrounding areas into a predetermined range. Replace with shielding information. The transmitter 4o takes out the restricted screen information from the image information restrictor 30 and sends it to the line for transmission to the other party.

Next, the shielding screen will be explained with reference to FIGS. 2(a) and 2(b). FIG. 2(a) shows the screen immediately after making or receiving a call when there is no limit coordinate instruction. This screen Immediately after, there is dialogue such as "fidgeting", and the amount of change in the movement of the white is large compared to the change in eye movement. The most frequent change coordinate detection means detects this change and outputs it as the coordinate of the lips.Image information restriction section Since the lip position coordinates are input as the limit coordinates in 3o, specify the coordinates in a preset upper, lower, left, and right range, and input, for example, a bright intermediate color image signal to the coordinates outside this range.Figure 2 (b) shows an example of this output screen.

In the above embodiment, it was explained that the image information restriction section receives the lip position coordinates and sets the shielding part. Manual control of the restricted coordinate instruction information while looking at the information may also be possible. Further, the image of area B in FIG. 2 tbl may be a predetermined pattern instead of a single color.

As explained above, the video telephone of the present invention receives an instruction of restricted coordinates and is provided with an image information restricting section between the transmitting section and the transmitting section, which blocks the image information from the television camera while leaving a part of the screen. In particular, only the head of the caller can be transmitted on the screen, and the inconvenience of using a videophone, such as making the other party feel uncomfortable or worrying about one's body, can be improved.
