Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal transfer recording medium generating no transfer irregularity by a simple equipment, by superposing a medium base material to a raw medium whereina heat-meltable ink layer was provided on a substrate and subsequently melting the heat-meltable ink layer under heating to transfer the same to the medium base material. CONSTITUTION:A raw material (Y)1 is superposed to a medium base material 2 and heated to a pressure stand 4 under pressure by a transfer heat source 3 to be adhered to said base material 2 through a heat-meltable ink layer. The raw medium (Y)1 wherein heat-meltable ink was trnasferred to the medium base material 2 is taken up by a take-up apparatus 6. Heat-meltable magenta ink is transferred from a raw medium (M)1 in adjacent relation to the heat- meltable yellow ink layer 7 transferred to the medium base material 2 and, hereinafter, heat-meltable ink of cyan and, if necessary, black are transferred. By repeating the above mentioned operation, a product having different colors in the longitudinal direction and free from transfer irregularity can be obtained. If the transfer heat source 3 and the pressure stand 4 are made of a roll having a narrow width, a thermal transfer recording medium having different colors in the width direction is obtained.

[I [:1-171-] Production of recording media is generally done by printing methods such as letterpress, gravure, flexography, and silk screen. For example, a method is adopted in which each color of black is printed separately in a predetermined section in the width direction of the medium as shown in Figure 3 or in the width direction as shown in Figure 4. The number of colors used (J print head is required, making the device large and complicated. Also, high precision is required, making the equipment expensive.
