Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate gas ventilation and to shorten a gas charging time by using a spacer type fiber, making one of its grooves empty, and inserting a gas flow pipe into an end part of the empty groove and sending gas. CONSTITUTION:A spacer 30 is obtained by forming, for example, four grooves 34 in the outer peripheral surface of a circularly sectioned wire body 32 made of flexible plastic. Optical fiber units 18 (normally, flat type) are put in the groove 34 respectively and core laps 16 and sheaths 12 are provided thereupon. In this case, only one groove 34A among those groove 34 is made empty without storing an optical fiber unit 18, and used as the gas passage. Then, the gas flow pipe 24 is inserted into the end part of this empty groove 34A to supply the gas. Consequently, the gas flow resistance of the cable decreases.

[Detailed Description of the Invention] [Industrial Application Field] As is well known, an optical fiber cable with a gas partition wall is made by exposing a part of the fiber core of the optical fiber cable and hermetically sealing the surrounding area with a compound. It constitutes a gas partition wall.

Gas is not supplied to one side of the cable separated by this bulkhead (shorter side) that is connected to an overhead cable, etc., but gas is not supplied to the other side of the cable that is connected to the main cable.
Gas needs to be supplied.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] There is originally no gap between the sheath 12 and the core lub 16. Since gas is supplied from between them, it is not easy to vent the gas and it takes a long time to fill the gas.
