Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform a color printing by spectrally dispersing beams of light from a sheet on which a character and a pattern are written, by a prism collecting the spectrally dispersed plural beams of light by a converging lens, and detecting by a photodetector to take out a bit of color information. CONSTITUTION:A character and a pattern on a sheet 4 wound on a drum 6 and irradiated by a light source 1 give the reflected light to a prism 9 through slits of slit boards disposed in parallel with an axis of the drum 6. The spectral beams of light refracted and transmitted from the prism 9 are converged to a lens 2 and given to a photodetecting array 3. The beams of light outputted from the prism 9 have different refractive angles corresponding to colors, so that three lenses 2 and three photodetecting arrays 3 are provided corresponding to three primary colors. The respective photodetecting arrays generate electric outputs of different values according to the strength of the light irradiated and the color information is supplied to a control circuit 7 from the respective photodetecting arrays as an electrical signal. Thereby, the electrical signal of the color information is formed to perform a color printing.

When attempting to make a color print using the conventional method, it is conceivable to provide a color disk corresponding to the three primary colors of light in front of the photodetection array 3, and rotate this to extract the color components of the light. However, this method requires the installation of disks of the three primary colors and the provision of power to rotate the disks.

According to the present invention, by utilizing the fact that the refractive index of light differs depending on the color, the light from the sheet surface is separated using a prism,
Since the light passing through the prism has different emission directions depending on the color, the spectral light is collected by condensing lenses installed at intervals related to each color, and is fed to a photodetector, which converts the color information into electricity. Creates a signal and performs color printing.

In FIG. 1, the sheet 4-hi which is irradiated by a light source 1 and wound around a drum 6 gives reflected light to a prism 9 through a slit in a slit plate 5 installed parallel to the axis of the drum 6. . The spectral light that has been refracted and transmitted through the prism 9 is collected by the lens 2 and provided to the photodetection array 3. Since the light emitted from the prism 9 has different refraction angles depending on the color, three lenses 2 and three photodetection arrays 3 are provided according to the three primary colors, as shown in FIG.

Here, the slits in the slit plate allow the components of the Y-direction reflected light from the sheet surface to pass through, and since the photodetection array also only has detection elements arranged in a row in the Y-direction, the Y-direction signal is supplied to the control circuit 7. It's just that. However, reading in the X direction can be performed by winding the sheet 4 onto the drum 6.
