Abstract

PURPOSE:To position with a high accuracy a beam spot on an object track by a simple control, by controlling an objective lens to a constant speed control so that a pulse width of a tracking signal which is obtained at the time of a track jump becomes constant. CONSTITUTION:When a track jump is desired, a control part 8 opens gate circuits 12, 13, inputs a tracking signal to a moving extent detecting means 6 and a timer 7, and sets a moving extent of a beam sport and a pulse width of the tracking signal to a monitor state. If this pulse width is larger than a prescribed pulse width, a driving voltage is applied in the accelerating direction. Also, when this pulse width is smaller than the prescribed pulse width, the driving voltage is applied so that the deceleration is executed. When the pulse width is about the same as the prescribed pulse width, the driving voltage is not applied and an objective lens 1 is controlled to a constant speed. In this way, it can be executed easily and with a high accuracy to position the beam spot on an object track, and the access time can be shortened.

The present invention provides a track jump control method for a beam spot on an optical disk, in which the pulse width of a tracking signal obtained during a track jump is measured, and when the pulse width is longer than a predetermined length, a lens actuator is used to drive an objective lens in a moving direction. When the pulse width is shorter than a predetermined length, a voltage is applied to the lens actuator to drive the objective lens in the opposite direction to the moving direction, and when the pulse width is about a predetermined length, the driving voltage is turned off. By controlling the objective lens at a constant speed, the beam spot can be positioned on the target track with high precision using extremely simple control, and jump mistakes can be prevented as much as possible, resulting in a reduction in access time.

Conventional track jump control methods include setting an acceleration time that matches the travel distance to the target track and sending drive voltage to the lens actuator for the set time;
A common method was to count the number of pulses of the tracking signal and control acceleration/deceleration while detecting the amount of movement to bring the beam spot to the target track.

[Problems and Objectives to be Solved by the Invention] However, with the above-mentioned conventional technology, variations in the physical characteristics of the drive system of the lens actuator, variations in the track spacing during disk manufacturing, and variations in the equal measurement as shown in FIG. Since the optimum acceleration and deceleration times always vary depending on conditions such as the position and speed of the lens movable part, which is supported by a spring, at the start of track jump, the lens often deviates significantly from the target track after jumping. Therefore, the operation of confirming the position of the beam spot again and jumping to the target track is repeated, which increases the access time accordingly. Furthermore, if accurate acceleration/deceleration control is to be performed taking into consideration the various conditions mentioned above, the control will be complicated.

[Means for solving the problem] As shown in FIG. 3, the track jump control method of the present invention converts the beam spot force (track error signal obtained when jumping over a track) into a digital signal. The pulse width of the tracking signal is measured, and when the pulse width is longer than a certain level, the objective lens is accelerated, when it is shorter, it is decelerated, and when the pulse width is about the same level, the driving voltage of the lens actuator is controlled so that the speed is constant. It is characterized by
