Recently, even the shape of caliper brakes has become more streamlined in order to increase the speed of bicycles even a little. However, in the caliper brake that is attached to the front fork of a bicycle, the brake arch, which is formed with a roughly semicircular cross section, has its arcuate surface as the traveling direction, so the air resistance on the brake surface side is relatively small. The back side of the brake has a flat surface shape and is also equipped with a spectacle spring that biases the brake arch in the direction of expansion, so air flow vortices tend to occur on the back side, causing large air resistance. I was getting used to it.
Furthermore, when the caliper brake is attached to the rear fork of a bicycle, it is attached so that the flat back side of the brake arch faces the direction of travel, which increases air resistance in the direction of travel, contrary to the above.

This invention was made to solve the above-mentioned conventional problems, and its feature is that a pair of brake arches each having a brake shoe at their lower end are supported so as to be able to swing freely around a center axis. The center portion between the winding portions of the spectacle spring having a pair of left and right winding portions is held on a center shaft protruding rearward from the rear surface of the brake arch, and both lower end portions of the spectacle spring are In the bicycle caliper brake that is engaged with the back side of the brake arch, a cover that covers the entire or wound portion of the spectacle spring is provided on the back side of the brake arch and has a continuous bulge behind the back side of the brake arch. It is at the point where it was installed so that it would be in a state.

Reference numeral 17 denotes a pair of covers, each cover 17 is formed entirely into a claw shape by plastic molding or the like, and has a rear surface 18 having a substantially semicircular cross section and an arcuate curved surface shape in the longitudinal direction; In addition, the entire left or right half of the spectacle spring 13 or at least the left or right winding portion 12 and the spring holding portion 11 are provided on the front surface 19.
A concave groove 20 into which the spring holding part 11 is inserted is formed in the longitudinal direction thereof, and a shaft hole 21 is opened at one end in the longitudinal direction where the spring holding part 11 is inserted. The pair of covers 17 are inserted into the center shaft 10 with the respective shaft holes 21 facing forward and backward, so that the front surface 19 overlaps the flat back surface of the brake arches 2 and 3 and is inserted into the groove 20. It is mounted so that the spectacle-shaped spring 13 and the spring holding part 11 are inserted so as to cover the spectacle-shaped spring 13 and the spring holding part 11 and to form a continuous bulge behind the rear surfaces of the brake arches 2 and 3. Ru. Note that the cover 17 is prevented from moving rearward of the center shaft 10 by inserting the cover between the brake arches 2, 3 and the front fork or rear fork when the rear part of the center shaft 10 is inserted and fixed to the front fork or rear fork of the bicycle. 17 is held between them.

When the cover 17 is attached to the bicycle caliper brake 1 in this way, when the caliper brake 1 is attached to the front fork of the bicycle so that the cover 17 is on the opposite side to the direction of travel, the 9th
As shown in the figure, air flows from the arcuate surface side of the brake arches 2 and 3 along the rear surface 18 of the cover 17, so that air flows on the rear surface side of the brake arches 2 and 3, such as in a conventional caliper brake without the cover 17. Swirls of flow are less likely to occur, reducing air resistance and increasing the speed of the bicycle. In addition, when this caliper brake 1 is attached to the rear fork of a bicycle, it is attached so that the cover 17 is in the direction of movement, but in this case, as shown in FIG.
8 and along the arcuate surfaces of the brake arches 2 and 3, air resistance can be reduced in this case as well and the speed of the bicycle can be increased.

In the embodiment described above, the pair of covers 17 are supported on the center shaft 10, but instead of this, the pair of covers 17 may be directly and integrally attached to the brake arches 2 and 3, respectively.

Further, in the above embodiment, the cover 17 has the winding part 12 of the spectacle spring 13 fitted into the concave groove 20 in an engaging manner, so that the cover 17 can swing around the center axis 10 of the brake arches 2 and 3. with coax 1
However, if the inside of the concave groove 20 of the cover 17 is formed slightly larger than the winding part 12 of the spectacle spring 13 and the winding part 12 is loosely fitted into the groove 20, the brake can be rotated around zero. Even if the arches 2 and 3 swing, the cover 17 remains stationary on the center shaft 10.

As is clear from the above embodiment, the bicycle caliper brake 1 of this invention has a brake arch 2,
A simple structure in which a cover 17 that covers the entire spectacle-shaped spring 13 or the wound portions 12, 12 is attached to the rear side of the brake arches 2, 3 so that the cover 17 continuously bulges behind the rear surfaces of the brake arches 2, 3 is used. There are advantages such as being able to reduce resistance and increase bicycle speed, as well as protecting the spectacle spring 13 from external objects and improving the design effect of the caliper brake.
