Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the reliability for transfer of data by performing the supply of power and the read-out of data with no contact with each other. CONSTITUTION:An IC card device 10 consists of a solar battery 11, a light emitting part 12, a power supply part 15 which converts the outputs voltage of the battery 11 into the voltage necessary for inside of the device 10, a control part 16 and a storage part 17. A light source 22 in a reading device 20 emits light with the electric power supplied from a power supply part 21. Then the battery 11 of the device 10 receives the light of the source 22 and produces voltage. The part 16 reads data from the part 17 and drives the part 12 according to said data. Thus the part 12 transmits the light modulated by the data and this light is received by a photodetecting part 23 of the device 20 and processed by a processing circuit 24. In such a way, the electric power is supplied from the battery 11 and the data is transferred by optical transmission. Thus the supply of power and the transfer of data are carried out with no contact with each other.

A conventional IC card device has an IC built therein that has a control function and a data storage function. When reading data stored in this IC card device, the card must be placed in a predetermined position of a predetermined reader, and the contacts of the reader must be brought into mechanical contact with the contacts (electrodes) exposed on the surface of the card. This supplies power to the IC card device and operates the IC inside the card.
