方、前記円板部材のスリツト群形成部を挾んで一
側に少なくとも1つの発光素子を有し、他側に発
光素子と対向し該発光素子からの光を第1及び第
2スリツト群の各スリツトを介してそれぞれ受光
して出力する2つの受光素子を有するフオトカプ
ラを設けると共に、ステアリング操舵時、前記フ
オトカプラの2つの出力パルスが所定回数入力し
た後、2つの出力パルス状態を所定サンプリング
時間毎に検出し、初回の出力パルス状態とそれ以
後の出力パルスが変化したときの出力パルス状態
とに基づいてステアリングシヤフトの回転方向を
識別して回転方向検出信号を出力する回転方向検
出手段を設けて構成したことを特徴とするステア
リングシヤフト回転センサ。
