Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a coating agent compsn. of having an effect of adsorbing autogenic formalin or formalin from other sources and eliminating the odor of formalin, by blending a coating agent contg. a liquid medium and a film- forming component with a weakly alkaline substance. CONSTITUTION:A liquid medium (e.g., toluene) is mixed with a film-forming component (e.g., an alkyd resin or a phenolic resin) and a weakly alkaline substance (calcium hydroxide) to obtain the desired coating agent compsn. for use in deodorizing the odor of formalin. When the film-forming component in the compsn. contains a formalin component, formalin formed by a formalin removal reaction can be converted into formose so that formalin is not evaporated around. Further, the coating film of the compsn. absorbs formalin formed from other sources such as dinnerware and formalin is converted into formose so that the coating compsn. has an excellent effect of eliminating the odor of formalin.

(Prior art) Traditionally, decorative laminates have been used in extremely large quantities as building materials, and these decorative laminates are made by laminating plywood together, but the adhesive used is urea-formalin. Adhesives are used because of their cost advantages. Furthermore, a large amount of urea-formalin adhesive is used in the production of thin paper plywood in which decorative thin paper is pasted onto the surface of the plywood. Furthermore, aminoalkyd paints having methylol groups are often used for printing or surface treatment of the decorative surfaces of these decorative boards.

(Means for Solving the Problems) As a result of intensive research in order to solve the problems of the prior art as described above, the present inventors have found that various coating agents containing a formalin component or not containing a formalin component as described above. When a weakly alkaline substance is contained in the liquid, in the case of a coating agent containing a formalin component, the formalin generated by deformalinization is easily converted to formose [C) + 20H.

In addition, in the case of various coating agents that do not contain formalin components, the coating film formed from such coating agents can deodorize formalin by absorbing surrounding formalin and converting it into formose. The present invention was completed based on this knowledge.

Next, to explain the present invention in more detail, the synthetic resin coating agent in the present invention refers to conventionally known adhesives, paints, ink surface treatment agents, fiber treatment agents, etc., and mainly refers to liquid media and It consists of a film-forming component. The liquid medium is various organic solvents and water, and the film-forming components are not limited to the aforementioned urea-formalin resins and aminoalkyd paints, but also include phenolic resins, melamine resins, acrylic resins, etc., and formalin components. Any known resin having a methylol group (that is, a methylol group) may be used, and any known resin such as a vinyl resin, a polyester resin, or a polyamide resin that does not contain such a formalin component may be used. Such liquid medium and film-forming components do not constitute a characteristic part of the present invention and are not particularly limited.

The main feature of the present invention is that a weakly alkaline substance is blended into the various conventionally known coating agents as described above, and the presence of such a weakly alkaline substance effectively converts the generated formalin into formose. and that formalin from other sources can be adsorbed and converted to odorless and non-irritating formose.

Weakly alkaline substances that exhibit the above-mentioned effects are those that are nonvolatile, do not alter the properties of film-forming components,
Furthermore, it is a necessary condition that it does not cause harm to the surrounding environment, and the most preferable weak alkaline substances that meet this condition are oxides or hydroxides of alkaline earth metals such as calcium, barium, and strontium. Other polyvalent metal hydroxides, alkali metal carbonates, acetates, ammonium carbonate, and the like are also effective.

The effects of the present invention can be achieved by blending the above-mentioned weak alkaline substances in an amount of about 0.1 to 100 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the film-forming components in the various coating agents. The blending method may be either during or after the preparation of each coating agent. For example, the ingredients may be mixed sufficiently uniformly using a conventionally known mixing means such as a ball mill, a roll, a Santo mill, an attritor, or a kneader. It is preferable to mix them.

(Action/Effect) In the formalin deodorizing coating composition of the present invention as described above, when the film-forming component contains a formalin component,
Since formalin produced by the deformalinization reaction is immediately converted to formose, formalin does not volatilize into the surroundings, and the problems of formalin odor and toxicity can be satisfactorily solved.

In addition, if the film-forming component does not contain formalin, the coating film made of such a coating agent may contain formalin generated from other sources (for example, tableware, containers, etc. molded from phenolic resin, etc.). Because it easily absorbs formalin generated from fiber products treated with a formalin-based fiber treatment agent and converts it into formose, it has a formalin deodorizing effect. Of course, even in the case of a composition containing a film-forming component containing the above-mentioned formalin component, it is natural that not only self-generated formalin but also formalin from other sources can be absorbed and converted into formose. .
