Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten communication time in terms of standard facsimile communications by attaining a call over the phone even during a start protocol executed after and before the exchange of facsimile picture information and simultaneously advancing the start protocol for facsimile communications during a call. CONSTITUTION:While a facsimile control signal is being exchanged, relays RC1 and RC2 are connected to the side of a contact point (b). After a band-pass filter BPF 3 takes out only the prescribed band(about 1750Hz) of the facsimile control signal modulated into 300 baud in a MODEM 4, said band is transmitted to a mixing part 3. If a transmission side places a call over the phone during sequence start and end protocols, a band removal filter BEF 1 removes the signal about at 1750Hz among sound signals, and the mixing part 3 synthesizes it with the facsimile control signal. The synthesized signal is transmitted to a telephone line N through a relay 6, a hybrid circuit 2 and the relay RC1. Thus a sound and the facsimile control signal can simultaneously be transmitted, and the total communication time is shortened.

In facsimile communication, before sending and receiving facsimile image information, a procedure (protocol) is essential for mutually communicating and confirming the terminal capabilities and functions possessed by opposing facsimile machines on the sending and receiving sides. For example, CCITT Recommendation T.30 stipulates that message transmission after call setup be performed using a binary control procedure or a tonal control procedure. Among these, the binary control procedure is mainly used for high-speed facsimile machines (group 3 (

In response to the standard function provided, a digital command signal DO8 is sent to the receiving side.

The transmitting side sends out a training check signal TCP for the receiving side to perform training. When the receiving station receives the TCP signal and completes all pre-message procedures, it notifies the transmitting side that it may start transmitting the message (image information) using the reception preparation confirmation signal CFH. From this point K, the transmitting side sends out image information PIX, and when the message transmission for one page of the original is completed, it sends out a procedure end signal EOP.

When the receiving side has correctly received the message, it sends out a message confirmation signal MCF to notify that fact, and finally the sending side sends out a circuit disconnection command signal DCN to the receiving side. Conventionally, it has been impossible to perform voice communication, which is a method of communicating using the entire voice band, not only while transmitting and receiving facsimile image information, but also while executing the above-mentioned protocol. For example, the standard G3 protocol shown in FIG. 2 requires about 11 seconds for the start protocol and about 3 seconds for the end protocol, and voice communication was not possible even during execution of this protocol.

Now, it is assumed that the facsimile machine (sending side) shown in FIG. 1 transmits data to the other party's facsimile machine (receiving side) K having the same function. In this case, the communication procedure is the control procedure for aircraft 03 recommended by CCITT as shown in No. 211. The control signal transmitter 5a outputs each facsimile control signal of DC8, TCF, EOP, and DCN to the modem 4,
The control signal receiving section 5b receives CED, DIS, C from the modem 4.
Receives FR and MCF facsimile control signals. Transmission control of facsimile control signals and recognition of the control signals are performed in the control section 11.

Relay RCI/RC when sending facsimile control signals
2 is connected to the contact side, and the facsimile control signal modulated to 300 pores by the modem 4 is sent to the mixing section 3 after extracting only a predetermined frequency range (around 1750 Hz) by the band pass filter BPF 3. When the sender makes a call using a telephone during the start protocol and end protocol of the procedure, the frequency around 1750 Hz of the audio signal is removed by the band rejection filter BEF1, and is combined with the facsimile control signal in the mixing section 3, and sent to the relay 6, hybrid circuit 2, It is sent to telephone port lfMN via relay RC1. Therefore, simultaneous transmission of voice and facsimile control signals is possible.

As is clear from the above description, according to the present invention, it is possible to make a telephone call even during the start protocol period, which is executed before and after sending and receiving facsimile image information in standard facsimile communication. On the other hand, since the facsimile communication start protocol can be started simultaneously during a call, communication time can be shortened.
