Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform preliminary ejection the number of times suitable for environmental conditions and avoid wasting an ink, by making it possible to set the number of preliminary ejections of the ink. CONSTITUTION:A printer interface part 21 is provided between a CPU 20 and an ink jet printer 5 to transfer various control signals. A power source 22 supplies electric power to the printer 5, the CPU 20 and the like. A switch 2 for setting the number of dots ejected in preliminary ejection is so constructed that the number can be set in two stages by using, for example, a slide switch. With electric power supplied, an initializing processing such as clearing an RAM, initialization of the printer 5 and deletion of display data on a display part 3 is performed. Next, a value set on the switch 2 is read, and a head of the printer 5 is driven according to the set value, thereby performing preliminary ejection.

[Prior Art] It is known that in printers that perform recording using the inkjet method, if the printer is left without ejecting ink for a long time, a phenomenon occurs in which ink is not ejected even though a normal ink ejection signal is sent at the start of recording. It is being The following two reasons can be considered as major causes of this initial ejection failure. One of them is that the temperature of the ink decreases in a low-temperature environment, the viscosity of the ink increases accordingly, and the energy required for ink ejection increases due to the viscous resistance, causing ejection failure due to insufficient ejection energy. Another reason is an increase in viscous resistance due to an increase in ink viscosity due to ink evaporation on the surface of the ejection hole.

One of the measures against this problem is a method called a preliminary ejection method. For example, when the power is turned on, ink is automatically ejected a certain number of times onto an ink absorber, etc. to lower the ink viscosity, and during this preliminary ejection operation, ink ejection failure is resolved, and normal ejection occurs when printing. This is the method to obtain.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] Conventionally, the number of ejections during preliminary ejection has been fixed to a certain constant value set for each model and cannot be changed. As described above, the number of preliminary ejections required to resolve ink ejection failures tends to be largely influenced by the usage environment conditions, and the number of preliminary ejections is usually set in accordance with severe conditions. Therefore,
Preliminary ejection is effective when used under adverse environmental conditions, but the number of preliminary ejections is not so high when used under favorable conditions, that is, environmental conditions where ink ejection failure is unlikely to occur. However, preliminary ejection is performed a predetermined number of times, resulting in wasted ink consumption.

In this embodiment, the switch 2 is a two-stage slide switch, and the number of discharges is determined by switching between S and W, but the invention is not limited to this. For example, a dip switch or a digital switch that can set numbers can be used. The number of times of ejection may be set. Furthermore, when preliminary ejection is not required, it is of course possible to set the number to 0 using a switch or turn off the switch so that no preliminary ejection is performed. When the preliminary ejection is completed, the process proceeds to step S4, and the process proceeds to a normal routine in which calculations, display outputs, etc. are performed manually using the keys on the keyboard 4.
