Abstract

PURPOSE:To exactly detect residual ink amount in an ink bag in a cartridge at low cost by a simple constitution in which a light reflector is provided to the film of an ink bag set in an ink cartridge, and a luminous element and a light receiver are provided on the carriage side. CONSTITUTION:In the central frame 1 of ink cartridge, the angle (alpha) of 90 deg. of edged lines are formed in the central section for forming light paths, which is made up of a transparent material. An ink-inducing groove 4 is formed in the side slope portion of the edged lines, and an ink-inducing hole is extended from the tip portion of the groove 4. A reflector is formed by vapor deposition or in sandwiched form on all or partial portion of an ink bag film. By using the ink bag 2 and cartridge frame 1, where no reflector but the ink bag 2 and the ink cartridge frame 1 is provided for the ink cartridge 1 side, a reflecting face is formed for the case where ink is running out. The reflecting face is detected by light sensors 6a and 6b provided on the carriage II side.

2. Description of the Related Art In general, inkjet printers record information in the form of a collection of dots by causing ink liquid to collide with recording paper in the form of droplets in accordance with recording information. Therefore, the ink is stored as a liquid in the container, and an alarm device is provided to notify the user when the amount of ink remaining in the container becomes low due to operation of the printer.

5 and 6 are schematic diagrams showing conventional examples of detecting the remaining amount of ink using optical sensors, respectively. In the figures, 20 is an ink bag, 21 is an ink bag upper surface position detection plate, and 22 is a reflective board, 23 is a light shielding plate, 24 is an externally installed optical sensor, and the fifth
In the example shown in the figure, the detection plate 21 is lowered as the amount of ink remaining in the ink bag 20 decreases, and when the ink in the ink bag 20 is nearly empty, the externally installed optical sensor 24 detects the reflection plate 22. This is to notify that the remaining ink in the ink bag 20 is low.
The detection plate 21 moves down as the amount of ink remaining in the ink bag decreases, and when the ink in the ink bag 20 is almost empty, the optical sensor 2
4, the light shielding plate 23 is separated from the light sensor 24.
This detects that there is little remaining ink in the ink bag 20.

The conventional ink level detection device described above has an ink bag top surface position detection plate 21 that moves integrally with the top surface of the ink bag, and a reflection plate 22 or a light shielding plate 23 is attached to a part of this detection plate 21. However, the ink cartridge requires members such as the ink bag top surface position detection plate 21, the reflector plate 22, or the light shielding plate 23, etc., which are displaced as the amount of ink remaining in the ink bag decreases, resulting in a complicated structure. However, there are drawbacks such as high cost, easy troubles, and inability to perform reliable detection.

FIG. 1 is a rear configuration diagram for explaining one embodiment of the remaining ink amount detection device according to the present invention, and FIG. 2 is a side configuration diagram. In the figure, ■ indicates an ink cartridge section, and ■ indicates a carriage section. , 1 is the ink cartridge center frame, 2 is the ink bag, 3
is ink, 4 is an ink guide groove, 5 is an ink cartridge cover, 6o is a light emitting element, 6b is a light receiving element, 70t 7
b is a condenser lens, 8 is a carriage, 9 is a guide rail,
10 is a center frame ridgeline, 11 is a head body, ]2 is a connector part, and 13 is an ink outlet hole.The cross-sectional structure of the film constituting the ink bag 2 is as shown in detail in FIG. It consists of, for example, PET (polyethylene terephthalate polyester) 2a, an aluminum layer 2b deposited on the inner surface of the PET, a polyvinylidene chloride film 2C, and a polyethylene film 2d from the surface toward the ink side. Therefore, in the present invention, the film surface of the ink bag 2 forms a light reflecting surface when the amount of ink remaining is low, and this reflective surface is used to detect whether the remaining amount of ink is low. A reflective member is added to the entire surface or a part of the ink bag film by vapor deposition or sandwiching. Therefore, according to the present invention, no reflective member is added to the ink cartridge I side other than the ink bag 2 and the ink cartridge frame 1;
These ink bags and cartridge frame members are used to form a reflective surface when ink is low, and this reflective surface can be detected by optical sensors 6o and 6b provided on the carriage (2) side. Note that the materials of the ink bag 2, the ink cartridge center frame 1, etc. are specified to some extent in order to make them work like two series, but there is no problem such as high cost, and for example, as the ink bag film 2, Metal vapor deposition or metal foil film (using aluminum, etc.) 2b is used to form the reflective surface, but this metal film also serves as a material with low air permeability and low moisture permeability, and air bubbles may get mixed into the ink bag. Alternatively, it also serves to prevent the moisture in the ink in the ink bag from evaporating. The ink cartridge center frame 1 has a ridgeline part ], O (the ridgeline part angle α is 90°) inside the center as shown in the figure to form an optical path, and is made of a transparent material. As shown in FIG. 2, an ink guide groove 4 is cut in the side slope part of the ink.
The tip thereof extends to the ink outlet hole 13. Its function is to ensure that the ink bag comes into close contact with the ridgeline surface as shown by the dashed line in FIG. 1 when the amount of ink remaining is low, thereby forming a reflective surface. Light emitting element 6°.

The light receiving element 6b is loaded into the carriage 8, and condensing lenses 7a and 7b are added to increase the light detection efficiency. Furthermore, in order to increase detection efficiency, the ink cartridge cover 5 is made of an opaque light-shielding material.

FIG. 4 is a block diagram of main parts for explaining another embodiment of the present invention. This embodiment replaces the ink bag shown in FIG. A transparent ink bag 2' is used, and a flexible reflective member 15 is attached in spots on the optical path surface of the ink bag 2'. The amount of ink remaining in the ink bag 2 can be detected in exactly the same manner as in the embodiment.

Efficacy As is clear from the above description, according to the present invention, the structure of the cartridge itself can be effectively used to check the amount of ink remaining in the ink bag without adding any additional devices to the ink cartridge. I made it to detect,
It has advantages such as low cost and fewer electrical troubles because it is optically detected without contact.
