Abstract

PURPOSE:To compensate for scattering of jetting characteristics among nozzles and eliminate the need to individually control driving pulse waveforms, pulse voltage or the like, by dividing an electrode for an electrostrictive vibrator in an ink jet head into a main electrode and at least one auxiliary electrode, and selectively connecting the auxiliary electrodes. CONSTITUTION:The electrode 6 for the electrostrictive vibrator is divided into the main electrode 21 and the auxiliary electrodes 22, 23, and the auxiliary electrodes 22, 23 are used or unused in addition to the main electrode 21, whereby the effective area of the electrode 6 is regulated. The scattering of characteristics among nozzles is compensated for by regulating the effective area of the electrode 6. The quantity of strain generated in the electrode 6 is varied with the effective area, under the same applied voltage. Therefore, when the effective area of the electrode 6 is varied according to the jetting characteristic of the nozzle, for example, the magnitude of the jetting velocity of droplets, the scattering of the jetting characteristics (jetting velocity of droplets) among the nozzles can be uniformized to within the allowable scattering.

Recording is performed by rapidly reducing the volume of the pressurized liquid chamber 5, thereby ejecting ink droplets from the nozzle hole 1. However, when multiplicity is used as shown in FIG. 9, the jetting characteristics between the nozzles differ due to variations in processing, variations in the characteristics of the electrostrictive vibrator, etc., resulting in a significant deterioration of image quality.

For example, it has been proposed to adjust the vibration pulse waveform that drives the electrostrictive vibrator one by one to make the ejection characteristics (e.g., ink droplet flying speed) uniform between each nozzle (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 106869/1983). .

(2) In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a multi-nozzle inkjet that prints two images of characters by forming ink droplets into particles and forming droplets on recording paper in correspondence with a character one image signal. The head is characterized in that the electrostrictive vibrator electrodes for droplet particles of each nozzle are divided into at least two patterns. The following is an example of the present invention.

As mentioned above, in multi-nozzle inkjet heads, the ink ejection characteristics between each nozzle differ due to variations in the characteristics between the nozzles within the head, variations in the characteristics between each head, etc., which deteriorates the image quality. 1. In the present invention, this variation between the nozzles is compensated for by changing the effective electrode area of the electrostrictive vibrator electrode 6 as described above.

Furthermore, measurement of the droplet velocity of each nozzle can be easily carried out by configuring the apparatus using a strobe light emitting device, an industrial television, a photographing camera, a microscope, etc. In the present invention, when a predetermined drive voltage is applied to the main electrode 21, the distortion amount is set to be slightly smaller than a predetermined amount. That is, the ejection characteristics between each nozzle are adjusted by selecting the auxiliary electrodes 22 and 23 according to the droplet velocity and electrically connecting them to the main electrode 21 to increase the effective electrode area of the electrostrictive vibrator 6. We try to compensate for variations.

Effects--As is clear from the above explanation, according to the present invention, the electrode of the electrostrictive vibrator of the inkjet head is divided into a main electrode and one or more auxiliary electrodes, and the jetting characteristics of each nozzle are adjusted. Since the auxiliary electrode is selectively connected in order to change the effective area of the working electrode accordingly, it is possible to compensate for variations in jetting characteristics between each nozzle. There is no need to adjust the waveform, pulse voltage, etc. one by one.
