Abstract

PURPOSE:To generate a reverberation sound having a natural expanding sense by one reverberation sound generating circuit, by making a reverberation sound signal formed by right and left channel signals branch into two, and adding one signal to which a delay or a level difference has been given, and the other signal, to one channel signal, and the other channel, respectively. CONSTITUTION:L and R channel signals which have been inputted to input terminals, 1, 2 are added by an adding circuit 3, and thereafter, inputted to a reverberation sound generating circuit 4. An output of the circuit 4 is made to branch into two, and one of them is delayed by 1m sec through a delaying circuit 5, and thereafter, added to the original channel signal by an adding circuit 7, and the other is attenuated by 9dB by passing through an attenuator 6, and thereafter, added to the original R channel signal by an adding circuit 8, and outputs of the circuit 7, 8 are outputted from a loudspeaker. In this way, the output of the circuit 4 is made to branch into two, and a 'time difference' and a #'level difference' of conditions for eliminating a static sense are given, therefore, a reverberation sound which is reproduced becomes a sound having a natural expanding sense.

In the circuit shown in FIG. 5, left and right channel signals R are combined in an adder circuit 3 (or subtracter circuit) and then guided to a reverberation sound generation circuit 4, and the created reverberation sound signals are sent to left and right channels in adders 7 and 8, respectively. A channel signal R is added to R, thereby making the reverberation sound generation circuit into one.

Similar to the circuit shown in Fig. 5, the circuit shown in Fig. 6 combines the left and right channel signals, R, in an adder circuit (or subtracter circuit) 3 and guides it to the reverberant sound generating circuit. One of the signals is directly led to the adder 7, and the other signal is reversed in phase by the inverter 11 and then led to the adder 8.

In order to add reverberation sound to the left and right channels, it is originally desirable to create reverberation sounds separately for each of the left and right channel signals and R.
As in the circuit shown in the figure, it is necessary to provide a reverberation sound generating circuit for each of the left and right channels. However, the reverberation sound generation circuit that can obtain natural reverberation sound has a relatively complicated and expensive configuration, so requiring two reverberation sound generation circuits makes the configuration complicated. There are problems both from a viewpoint and from a cost standpoint.

In order to solve this problem, a reverberation addition circuit has been proposed, as shown in Fig. 5, which eliminates one channel of the reverberation sound generation circuit by combining the left and right channel signals R and leading them to the reverberation sound generation circuit. Ru.

However, since this circuit applies reverberant sound signals with the same signal level and the same phase to the left and right channel signals, R, the reverberant sound is localized in the center of the two speakers, thus reducing the sense of spaciousness of the sound. You can't get it.

The circuit shown in Fig. 6 improves the drawbacks of the circuit shown in Fig. 5, and adds the reverberation sound signal to the left and right channel signals, R, in an antiphase relationship, and is commonly used. This is the way to be. This takes advantage of the fact that when input signals of opposite phase are applied to the left and right channels, the position of the sound image differs depending on the signal frequency, and therefore the sound image is not localized. There is a problem in that the sound can be heard conspicuously, causing an audible discomfort.

In two-channel stereo reproduction, a phenomenon called the Haas effect is known. This Haas effect is a phenomenon in which a sound image that has been localized at the center of two speakers moves to the side of the channel that is not delayed by applying a delay to the signal of one channel.

Furthermore, in this state, if you reduce the signal level of the channel on the side where the sound image has moved, it is possible to return the sound image to the center and localize it, but the reason why this return to the center is possible is as described above. This is true only when the delay time applied to the channel signal is within a certain range. This phenomenon is known as trading the time difference and level difference between two signals.

FIG. 3 shows the results of this trading experiment conducted using a female voice announcement. In the figure, the ordinate shows the level difference (dB) and the abscissa shows the time difference (μsec). Furthermore, the area indicated by diagonal lines is a range in which the evaluator has difficulty evaluating the localization of the sound image, and therefore the localization is not clear.

As is clear from the experimental results shown in Figure 3, the range in which trading is possible based on the time difference and level difference between two signals is within the range where the graph shows a monotonous increasing trend, and the delay time difference is up to about 600 μsec. Yes, this 60
At 0 μsec, a level difference of approximately 9 dB is required for trading. When the delay time difference exceeds 600 μsec, it is no longer possible to return the sound image to the center due to the level difference between the two signals, the sound image spreads between the two speakers, and there is no localization, making it difficult to determine where the sound is coming from. It becomes less clear. In other words, a sense of spaciousness of the sound can be obtained.

Utilizing this phenomenon, the reverberant sound created by combining the left and right channel signals is divided into two signals, and the above-mentioned conditions are met between these two signals, that is, for example, the time difference is 600μ5eCz level difference is 9dB. If this is added to the original left and right channel signals and played back through speakers, the reverberant sound will have a natural sense of spaciousness.

Furthermore, a delay/level difference providing circuit branches this reverberant sound signal into two and provides a time difference and a level difference between one signal and the other signal. The time difference and level difference are selected to values such that the stereo reproduction of reverberant sound by the speakers has no sense of localization and appears to be spread out. The two-branched residual sound signals are combined into original left and right channel signals by first and second reverberation sound synthesis circuits, respectively, and reproduced by speakers. Therefore, the reverberant sound is not localized and has a confusing spread.

The R and R channel signals inputted to the input terminals 1.2 are added by the adding circuit 3, and then inputted to the reverberant sound generating circuit 4, where they are subjected to delay processing, whereby a reverberant sound signal is created and output. This reverberant sound signal is split into two branches, one of which is delayed by 1m5ec through a delay circuit 5 and then added to the original channel signal in an adder 7, and the other is attenuated by 9 dBJ by passing through an attenuator 6. The adder circuit 8 adds the signal to the original R channel signal. The output signal from the adder circuit 7.8 is output to the speaker and becomes an output sound.

Various modifications are possible in carrying out the invention. For example, in addition to having a complex configuration as shown in Figure 2, a reverberation sound generation circuit may be configured with a delay element into which a signal is input, and a feedback circuit that returns part of the output of this delay element to the input side. is also possible. In addition to the circuit of the embodiment, a circuit that gives a time difference and a level difference between two reverberant sound signals can be used, for example, by delaying and amplifying one of the two branched reverberant sound signals and adding it to the original channel signal, and by adding the other to the original channel signal. The circuit may be configured such that it is added to the channel signal. Further, the circuit for combining left and right channel signals into one is not limited to the addition circuit 3 of the embodiment, but may be combined using, for example, a subtraction circuit. In this case, components of the left and right channel signals with the same level and phase are removed, and only components with different phases and levels between the left and right channels are output as reverberant sound.
