Abstract

PURPOSE:To stabilize printing grade by always obtaining a constant printing dot diameter without being affected by atmospheric temp. such as room temp., by setting the bias temp. of a recording head at the emitting time of ink to temp. higher than the max. atmospheric temp. CONSTITUTION:When printing operation is started, the set value of a temp. setting device 15 is inputted to CPU 10 and the detection value from a temp. detector 7 is inputted to CPU 10 to be compared with the aforementioned set value. When detected temp. is low, a heater 8 is turned ON for a definite time to heat a recording head 6. When the detected temp. is high, printing is interrupted for a definite time to wait the decrease in the temp. of the recording head 6. Heating and cooling are appropriately repeated and, when the detected temp. reaches a set temp. range, printing is started. The bias temp. of the recording head 6 at the emitting time of ink is controlled while the above-mentioned process is repeated. Because the bias temp. is set to one higher than the max. atmospheric temp. and held to the set temp., the change in the viscosity of ink is suppressed to a small degree even when the atmospheric temp. changes and the stable emission of ink is obtained and a constant printing dot diameter is always formed and printing grade is enhanced.

This type of inkjet recording device is equipped with an electrothermal converter made of a heating resistor, etc., corresponding to each of the plurality of ink ejection ports that form print dots, and drives each electrothermal converter based on print data. This causes bubbles to grow in the liquid ink, and the ink is ejected by the pressure of the bubbles to form flying ink droplets, thereby forming printed dots on paper.

By the way, in this type of bubble jet recording head, in order to form stable ink droplets, that is, to obtain a constant print dot diameter, it is necessary to control the temperature (bias temperature) of the recording head and adjust the ink properties (especially viscosity) appropriately. It is requested that it be maintained.

しかし、従来のバブルジェット記録ヘッドにあっては、

However, with conventional bubble jet recording heads,
The bias temperature during ink ejection was set at a relatively low temperature close to room temperature (for example, 20°C to 25°C), so if the room temperature changes depending on the season or time of day, the print head temperature is likely to be affected by the room temperature. There has been a problem in that the change in ink viscosity becomes large, making ink droplet formation unstable, and the print quality tends to deteriorate due to changes in the print dot diameter.

A plurality of ink ejection openings (for example, 24 or 3611) are formed in a vertical row on the front surface of this bubble jet recording head, that is, the surface facing the paper 1 at a predetermined interval (for example, 0.8 mm). Ink droplets are formed by driving the electrothermal transducer of each ink ejection port based on the data, and recording is performed while forming print dots on the paper 1.

However, according to the recording head temperature control means according to the present invention, the bias temperature during ink ejection is set to a temperature higher than the maximum value of the ambient temperature (for example, 40° C.), and the setting is performed based on the detection signal of the temperature detector 7. When the temperature is lower than the set temperature, the heater 8 is turned on, and when the temperature is higher than the set temperature, printing is interrupted or a cooler (not shown) is activated to lower the temperature.
