<Prior art and problems> In a thread-wound core golf ball, a thread rubber is wound around a core material (center). Liquid core materials consisting of vulcanized rubber bags are known. A thread-wound core golf ball using the former (solid core material) has superior flight distance, but is inferior in hitting feel and straight flight performance. A thread-wound core golf ball using the latter (liquid core material) has better feel at impact and straight flight, but
The flight distance is inferior to that of a solid core material. In addition, the above-mentioned liquid-filled core material is wrapped with rubber thread and is subjected to a compressive load of about 1 ton, so if the golf ball is damaged during use, the liquid inside the vulcanized rubber bag may be released. It erupted violently, causing problems such as damage to the eyes, face, and clothing.

この点に配慮して、有害液体を用いることなく。With this in mind, we do not use harmful liquids.

A thread-wound core golf ball using a core material made of various hydrogels covered with a hydrophobic polymeric elastomer (bag) was proposed (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No.
O-165966). This prevents the liquid content from spewing out even if the golf ball is damaged, but it has inferior repulsion compared to a thread-wound core golf ball that uses a solid core material, and all existing hydrogels Because it is too weak, it cannot be wrapped directly around a rubber thread, so as with conventional liquid core materials, the hydrous gel is covered with unvulcanized rubber, then vulcanized, and then frozen and solidified. It requires complicated processes such as wrapping rubber thread around the material.

<Object of the Invention> The object of the present invention is to use a core material that does not require a coating, to provide the same feel at impact and straight flight as golf balls with a liquid core material, and to provide the same feel and straight flight characteristics as golf balls with a conventional solid core material. An object of the present invention is to provide a thread-wound core golf ball capable of achieving similar flight distances. Another object of the present invention is to provide a thread-core golf ball with extremely high safety, in which the liquid content does not gush out when the ball is damaged. Still another object of the present invention is to provide a thread-wound core golf ball that can be produced simply and without the need for a coating and in which a rubber thread can be directly wound.

In the present invention, a high water content gel manufactured using polyvinyl alcohol as a raw material is used. The polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) used in the present invention requires a degree of saponification of 95 mol% or more, preferably 96 mol% or more. Further, the degree of polymerization of the polyvinyl alcohol used in the present invention is required to be 700 or more. If the degree of polymerization is less than 500, especially less than 300, only a viscous liquid or a soft gel will be produced. In the present invention,
For example, polyvinyl alcohol with a polymerization degree of about 800 to 3,300 can be used, but it is best to use a high polymerization degree product (with a polymerization degree of 1,000 to 2,600) that is usually reprinted. In the first aspect of the present invention, first, an aqueous solution containing a water-soluble organic compound different from the aforementioned polyvinyl alcohol and PVA is prepared.

t%, preferably 5 to 25 wt%. If the content is small, it is difficult to avoid adhesion with the thread when the thread rubber is wound, and the specific gravity of the core material is low, resulting in insufficient resilience. Also,
If it exceeds 30 νt%, it will be difficult to gel the polyvinyl alcohol. This water-soluble organic compound is ethylene glycol.

Polysaccharides or proteins such as tragacanth gum, xanthan gum, and guar gum are also used, but in consideration of the adhesion prevention and mechanical strength of the resulting core material, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, and polyhydric alcohols such as glycerin and D-sorbitol are used. In particular, water-soluble organic compounds having 2 to 6 hydroxyl groups in the molecule are most preferred.

To prepare an aqueous solution or suspended aqueous solution containing a water-soluble organic compound different from polyvinyl alcohol and PVA, in addition to adding, dissolving, and suspending polyvinyl alcohol and the water-soluble organic compound in water, you can prepare the water-soluble organic compound in water in advance. A method in which vinyl alcohol is dissolved and then mixed with the water-soluble organic compound (or its aqueous solution), or a polyvinyl alcohol aqueous solution or polyvinyl alcohol powder is added, dissolved, or added to the water-soluble organic compound (or its aqueous solution). A suspension method can be adopted, and in either method, the final concentration of polyvinyl alcohol is adjusted to be more than 5% by weight and less than 40% by weight, and the concentration of the water-soluble organic compound is adjusted to 0 to 3% by weight. .

Next, with respect to 100 parts by weight of the aqueous solution or cloudy aqueous solution containing this polyvinyl alcohol and the water-soluble organic compound,
5 to 40 parts by weight, preferably 10 to 30 parts by weight of a filler having a specific gravity greater than 1 is blended. If the blending ratio of the filler is less than 5 parts by weight, the specific gravity is too low, resulting in a short flight distance of the golf ball, and if it exceeds 40 wt%, it is too heavy and gives a poor feel on impact. The type of filler is not particularly limited as long as it has a specific gravity of more than 1 and does not adversely affect the gelation of polyvinyl alcohol. in particular,
Mention may be made of inorganic fillers such as barium sulfate, zinc powder, glass powder, calcium carbonate, silica, titanium oxide, and organic fillers such as zinc acrylate, zinc methacrylate, and zinc stearate.

In the first aspect of the present invention, the aqueous solution or suspended aqueous solution containing polyvinyl alcohol, a water-soluble organic compound, and a filler having a specific gravity of more than 1 is injected into a forming mold and heated to -10°C or lower. Cool and solidify, then thaw. Repeat this series of freezing and thawing operations to increase the cumulative number of freezes to 2.
~8, the high water content gel that can be used in the present invention (
Rubber) spheres can be obtained. In addition to increasing the cumulative number of freezing times, the hardness of the resulting high water content rubber also improves;
After the cumulative number of freezes exceeds 9, the effect almost disappears (
According to Masao Nambu, Polymer Descent, 32.523 (1983)), 2 to 8 above are economical.

In the second invention, the organic compound is contained in the high water content gel by contacting the spheres of the high water content gel with a water-soluble organic compound different from PVA to replace part of the water in the high water content gel with the organic compound. The contact operation with the water-soluble organic compound can be easily carried out by immersing the spheres of high water content gel in an aqueous solution or suspension of the water-soluble organic compound, and as the water-soluble organic compound and water are replaced, The volume of the sphere decreases,
Repulsion is enhanced.

In the case of the first invention, the thread rubber can be directly wrapped around the high water content gel spheres in the frozen/solidified state during the manufacturing process, so the core material is produced in advance and then frozen/solidified as in the case of the known method. 5. In the case of the second invention, spheres of high water content gel are obtained in advance, frozen, and then a rubber thread is wrapped around them. As the rubber thread, rubber threads commonly used for golf balls can be used. As the outer skin material, known materials such as balata (natural transpolyisoprene) and ionomer resin can be used.

The obtained golf ball was compared with a golf ball of the same diameter using a known liquid core material, and it was found to be comparable in feel at impact and straight flight, and superior in flight distance. In addition, although the golf ball was intentionally cut with a knife, the hydrous gel did not spout out, and the rubber thread was simply scattered a little.
