Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a failure resulting from dusts and the like mixing in a surrounding air of a magnetic disk by disposing a magnetic disk cleaning head in front of a magnetic head with respect to a rotating direction of the magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic disk cleaning head 5 is disposed in front of a recording and reproducing magnetic head 2 with respect to a rotating direction A of a magnetic disk 1. When a direct current is supplied through an actuator 7 made of a shape memory alloy to raise a temperature above a transformation point, a load arm 3A is lowered to contact the cleaning head 5 with the surface of the magnetic disk 1. Under this condition, the cleaning head carries out a seeking operation by a guide arm 4, thereby, contaminants such as dusts are removed over a whole surface of the magnetic disk 1. As for a material of the cleaning head 5, carbon or a compound material consisting essentially of carbon having a low hardness, high thermal conductivity and excellent lubricity is preferable.

Generally speaking, fixed magnetic disk drives use a method for recording and reproducing information by floating a magnetic head for recording and reproducing above a magnetic disk that rotates at high speed through a layer of air on the order of submicrons. Therefore, if contaminants such as dust are present in the gap between the magnetic disk and the magnetic head, the magnetic disk and magnetic head will collide, causing serious problems due to mechanical and thermal damage. There is a risk that

However, as the recording density of magnetic disk devices increases, the problem of dust particles becomes smaller, and even when the device is assembled in a class 10 ultra-clean room, O0! Particle size 0.2μ is a problem in actual use in a device with an internal volume of Mt'.
There is a possibility that about several dozen dust particles with a diameter of m or more may be trapped.

FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing an embodiment of a magnetic disk device according to the present invention. In the figure, 1 is a magnetic disk rotated in the direction of arrow A, 2 is a magnetic head for recording and reproducing attached to the tip of a four-door arm 3B attached to a guide arm 4, and this magnetic head 2 is placed on the magnetic disk 1. The IC is floating while maintaining a small IVJ gap. 5 is the end of the load arm 3A (for cleaning the attached magnetic disk), and this cleaning head 5 is for cleaning the magnetic disk 1.
The magnetic head 2 is disposed at the front end of the magnetic head 2 with respect to the rotational direction A. , 7 is an actuator made of a shape memory alloy that is attached to the guide arm 4 and supports the a-door arm 3A, and the actuator 7, the a-door arm 3A, and the cross section 70 constitute the ding mechanism 6A.

The cleaning head 5 is formed in a semi-cylindrical shape, but the flying height of the cleaning head 5 when the magnetic disk 1 rotates is smaller than the flying height of the magnetic head 2, and the flying height of the cleaning head 5 is smaller than the flying height of the magnetic head 2 in the radial direction of the magnetic disk 1. As long as the head width is larger than the width of the magnetic head 2 (l, q, :l, q), there is no need for any particular limitation.

In addition, the cleaning head 5 is made of a material that has low hardness, high thermal conductivity, and lubricity to prevent mechanical and thermal deterioration of the magnetic disk 1 during sliding with the magnetic disk 1. Good materials, such as carbon and carbon-based composites, are optimal.
