Recently, rotating head type magnetic tape devices have been used which are characterized by forming a small gap between the rotating head and the magnetic tape and recording and reproducing without contact. In such devices, the rotating head and the magnetic tape are normally maintained in a non-contact manner, but there is a phenomenon in which dust or dirt that has fallen from the magnetic tape adheres to the rotating head, causing the magnetic tape and the rotating head to come into contact. . This contact phenomenon does not necessarily correspond to the usage time and cannot be predicted in advance, so
In order to prevent damage to the magnetic tape due to contact phenomena, it is important to detect contact phenomena at the initial stage of contact. However, conventionally, there was no means for detecting contact during use of such a device. For this reason, as a method for preventing damage to the magnetic tape, a method has been adopted in which the rotary head is cleaned after the device is used, for example, after rewinding the magnetic tape, but the effect of preventing damage to the magnetic tape has not been sufficiently achieved.

The purpose of the present invention is to eliminate the above-mentioned conventional problems, and to reduce damage to a magnetic tape which has the effect of minimizing damage caused when a rotating head contacts a magnetic tape which is a recording medium. The purpose is to provide a prevention method.

Next, one embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail using the drawings. Referring to FIG. 1, a rotor motor speed control circuit and drive circuit 1 is connected to one terminal of a rotor motor 3, and the other terminal of the rotor motor 3 is connected to a motor current detection circuit 4. The output of the motor current detection circuit 4 is transmitted to the differential current detection circuit 5.
connected to. A rotor 2 having a rotary head 9 mounted on its drive shaft is mechanically connected to the rotor motor 3. Further, the output of the differential current detection circuit 5 is connected to the input of the head cleaning mechanism drive circuit 6. Furthermore, the output of the head cleaning mechanism drive circuit 6 is connected to the head cleaning mechanism 7. The head cleaning mechanism 7 comes into contact with or separates from the rotary head 9 mounted on the rotor 2 in response to a signal from a head cleaning mechanism drive circuit 6.

As shown in FIG. 2, an air blowing groove 10 for floating the magnetic tape is provided around the rotary head 9 embedded in the rotor 2, and air is blown out when recording and reproduction are stopped. As shown in FIG. 3, the magnetic tape 8 is sufficiently floated above the surface of the rotary head 9. The floating clearance is generally 10 μm or more. On the other hand, during the recording/reproducing operation, the air blowing groove 10
No air is blown out from the rotor, the flying clearance is usually 1 μm or less, and the drive current of the rotor motor 3 is about the same as when recording and reproduction are stopped. However, if dust adheres to the rotating head, a sufficient flying clearance cannot be obtained during recording and reproducing operations, and the magnetic tape 8 and the rotating head 2 come into contact with each other, causing an increase in the current flowing through the rotor motor 3. FIG. 4 is a diagram showing the relationship between the tape flying height and motor current during floating and tape contact, with the horizontal axis representing the tape flying height and the vertical axis representing the motor current. As can be seen from this figure, the motor current increases when the tape and rotating head come into contact. Therefore, the differential current detection circuit 5 detects that the difference in the rotor motor drive current between the recording/reproducing pause and the recording/reproducing operation exceeds a certain value, and sends a signal to the head cleaning mechanism drive circuit 6, which starts the head cleaning mechanism. 7 to clean the rotary head 9, damage to the magnetic tape can be kept to a minimum.

2. Since the method detects the difference in drive current between when recording/playback is stopped when air is blown out and during recording/playback when air is not blown, the influence of variations in the rotor motor itself can be eliminated.
