This makes it possible to obtain excellent enlarged/reduced images.

Therefore, there was a risk that the image quality would deteriorate after enlargement or reduction.

Alternatively, the distribution of white points is changed at a high spatial frequency, thereby causing the human visual sense to perceive a pseudo-halftone density. Therefore, it is possible to obtain halftone modulus information with high visual resolution.

When an image is enlarged twice in both vertical and horizontal directions using the conventional enlargement processing method described above, the enlarged image becomes as shown in Fig. 3 (B).
The dither matrix shown in FIG. 1 is equivalent to a dither process, and as a result, both the resolution and the ability to express halftone density are significantly reduced.

When an image is reduced to 1/2 in both the vertical and horizontal directions using the conventional reduction processing method described above, the reduced image becomes only sampled bit data as shown in Figure 4 (B), so the original dither matrix is destroyed. This results in a significant deterioration in image reproducibility.

An object of the present invention is to provide an image processing method that allows a dithered image of good quality to be obtained without causing deterioration.

Since reduction processing can be performed, an enlarged/reduced dithered image can be obtained without reducing the ability of the dither matrix to express halftone density. Furthermore, by determining the density difference between adjacent dither blocks in the original dithered image, it becomes possible to selectively perform the optimal enlargement/reduction processing for various images, and excellent enlarged/reduced dithered images can be obtained.
