Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the unbalance of pressing force in the height direction of a character by closely contacting a thermal head with a platen in a perfectly parallel state, by setting the center of rotation and center of gravity of the platen to the same position. CONSTITUTION:A shaft 1-1 for supporting a platen 1 in a freely revolvable manner is provided to both ends of the platen 1 and supported in a freely revolvable manner by a platen support 2. The center of rotation of the platen support 2 is set to the same position as the center of gravity of the platen 1 from a planning aspect. Because the center of rotation of the platen 1 is the center of gravity of the platen 1 itself in such a state that a thermal head 3 is pressed to and closely contacted with the platen 1 by a spring 5 so as to hold paper 6 between the thermal head 3 and the platen 1, the platen 1 is closely contacted with the thermal head 3 in parallel and the pressing force of the thermal head 3 applied by the spring 5 generates no non-uniformity in the height direction of a character and extremely uniform pressure contact is achieved. As a result, the pressing force F of the thermal head 3 can be fairly reduced as compared with conventional one and the shift of the paper 6 from a predetermined position does not occur.

The platen 20 has a shaft 20-1'j5 on both ends of which the platen 20 is rotatably supported, and a platen support 21
It is rotatably supported. This is called a self-aligning platen device. On the other hand, a shaft 2 on which a thermal head 22 having a heating element is rotatably supported.
2-1 is rotatably supported by a thermal head support 23, and by means of a spring 24, the thermal head 22 completely holds the paper 26 on the platen 2° and is pressed into close contact with the platen 2° to perform the entire printing.

Problems to be Solved by the Invention However, in the above-described configuration, the thermal head 22 may not be in close contact with the platen 2o in parallel due to variations in the accuracy of each component and attachment, resulting in a gap a. Even if a significant gap does not occur, as shown in FIG. 4, the pressing force F of the thermal head 22 applied by the spring 24 will vary in the height direction of the character, making it difficult to achieve the desired print quality. A large amount of spring pressure is required, resulting in problems such as increased power consumption of the motor and shortened lifespan of the thermal head. In addition, since the thermal head 22 grips the paper 25 and comes into close contact with the platen 20, the two rotate and come into contact with each other, which causes the paper 26 to shift from a predetermined position.

Means for Solving the Problems In order to solve the above problems, a platen device for a thermal printer according to the present invention includes a platen and support parts rotatably supported by platen supports at both ends of the platen. ,
The rotation center of the platen by the support portion and the center of gravity of the platen are set at the same position.

According to the above structure, the thermal head is pressed by the platen 1 spring, and the thermal head and the platen are in close contact with each other in parallel with the complete wall while sandwiching the paper, and the height of the pressing force is increased. This eliminates the imbalance in printing and achieves excellent print quality. Furthermore, there is no possibility that the paper will shift during the close contact operation.

EXAMPLES Hereinafter, examples of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a sectional view showing an embodiment of the platen device of the present invention. The platen 1 has shafts 1-1 at both ends thereof for rotatably supporting the platen 1, and is rotatably supported by a platen support 2. The center of rotation of this platen support portion is designed to be at the same position as the center of gravity of the platen 1. On the other hand, the thermal head 3 having a heating element has a shaft 3-1 on which it is rotatably supported, and is rotatably supported by the thermal head support 4, and the spring 6 causes the thermal head 3 to move the paper 6. It is attached between the thermal head 3 and the thermal head support 4 in a direction in which it is clamped and pressed against the platen 1. By configuring the platen device as described above, in the printing state, that is, in the state in which the thermal head 3 clamps and presses the paper 6 against the platen 1 by the spring 6, the rotation center of the platen 1 is the platen 1 itself. Because of its center of gravity, it comes into close contact with the thermal head 3 in parallel with it, as shown in FIG. 2, and a good pressure contact with the spring 5 is achieved. Therefore, the pressing force F of the thermal head 3 can also be significantly reduced compared to the conventional one. Furthermore, the paper 6 is no longer displaced from a predetermined position due to the operation of the thermal head 3 holding the paper 6 while closely contacting the platen 1.

Furthermore, when the present invention is applied to a thermal transfer type thermal printer using a heat-melting printing ribbon, the ribbon is attached to the thermal head 3.
Since the paper 6 is interposed between and in close contact with the paper 6, the above effect becomes even more effective.
